I noticed after my 3rd nerve block that I now have 2 bald indented spots on the back of my head. Has anyone else had that reaction, and has your hair grow back? I also had an allergic reaction to cortisone, but that's so unlikely it must be a bonding agent or something else in the medication. Anybody allergic to a steroid?

Thanks!

Melissa

Now it's a few months later, and weirdly one spot has recovered, grown hair, and filled back out, but the other side has not. It is the same side that I had a great deal of pain in right after the nerve block, so who knows. I'm hoping with just a bit more time it will also fill in and grow back. I'm also hoping to lose the 20lbs I put on from the steroids.

Good Luck with your spots.

Melissa

Hi hun, how strange my worst spot had a lot of nerve pain, still does and that spot if about the size of a golf ball. Oh i hope it grows back. Did the indents fill in at least?

Thanks!

We have a friend who got bald spots at the site of her nerve blocks just as you have described. Hers took months but did finally grow back in. Her doctor never mentioned it as a possible side effect until, of course, it had actually happened to her. My daughter's doctor also didn't mention it when we scheduled her nerve blocks, but so far nothing has fallen out.

It's bad enough to have the pain, without adding bald spots to the mix. Doctors should tell people it's possible so we don't think something horrible has happened. I hope you see more growth soon!

So...quick update a year later: The bald indented spots turned black, but after several months both the hair and skin grew back and filled in. Phew! I'm still trying to deal with the extra 30 lbs that I put on in 6 months from the steroids. I have not had much success losing the weight, it's like I have a different body. I will definitely not be getting any more occipital nerve blocks. I'm trying verapamil now for migraine prevention and we will see how it goes.

I go to the Park Nicollet Headache Clinic in St. Louis Park, MN. Good luck finding a doctor!
