It seems like the drs only care about covering their own asses instead of helping their patients. I cannot TELL you how many times I have heared the worfd "addiction" from drs mouths. So I pose this question. If I receive narcotic pain killers from my dr, and I have migraies EVERYDAY does it even matter if I'm addicted if I only use it when I have pain?? Its not like I'm ever going to be pain free for any long span of time. So why should they care or even worry about addiction? Just gimme the damn 10/325 percocett please I'm in pain here!! Anyone agree disagree? I'm furious at the way we get treated by drs grrrr Sad

I understand your frustration with this but in saying that can you really blame the Dr's? They've taken an oath to save lifes and I'm sure as angry as we get with them when they don't perscribe what we want it must also be very frustrating for them when people are overdosing on their perscriptions and selling them. This puts them all in a bad lite and causes them to have to be very carfull with how they perscrible.

I feel for you and on some points I understand but I also try to understand what they have to deal with.

I hope your pain is low and you have a good week. Take Care!

Kardie

I'm not a Dr. and anything I write is my oppinion and my opinion only. I am just like you, I'm here for support and friendship from people who understand what I'm dealing with.

I WAS seeing a doctor that was absolutely paranoid about prescribing pain medication (even though he was pain management). He used to require urine tests every month before he would give you prescriptions (urine tests that I quickly found out were not covered by insurance so they wanted me to pay out of pocket). Every office visit he would ramble on about how some dr got sued because a lady got high off pain killers the dr prescribed her and then got into a car accident and hurt someone. And you know what the best part was...he wasn't even prescribing me narcotics!!! Just anti-siezure meds for prevention and fioricet. I'm not seeing him anymore due to various reasons, and this wasn't even one of the top reasons...

My mother in law has an AVM (malformation of blood vessels in her brain)that causes severe pain and pressure in her brain. She HAS to take oxycontin everyday otherwise she is in so much pain she vommits like the excorsist (way worse than me when I have a migraine). It took FOREVER to find a doctor to prescribe her what she needed in order to function, and its obvious she is in pain, there is stuff in her brain taking up space that isn't supposed to be there. Migraines are a little fuzzier. The only way they know if you are in pain is if you tell them, and unfortunately not everyone is honest. Drs do have to be careful, sometimes they take it overboard and the patient suffers as a result. Sometimes there suspicions are warranted, other times not.

I know what you are talking about. My wife goes into the ER with a very sever migraine that can not be managed at home they act like she is there just to get her high for the day or something. I wish they would spend half the effort in finding out how to stop them instead.

My pain mamagement doctor's office was under police watch as some patience addicted to drugs demanded them and would not take no for the answer. Since then she closed her in office pharmacy and has the needed meds delivered as needed.

I got of the narcotics when I started Botax treatemtns. Now over the counter and occasional prescription antinfamatory and muscule relaxers work good.

Good luck to you, I hope that other treatment will work for you also.

I just looooove it when you go to the ER or urgent care and they just HATE to give narcotics, last time he gave me a nausia med benedryl and I.v. Fluids before he would give me half the pain meds that my primary care gives me. I will just have to see what happens when I go in today since I have another killer migraine. As always you guys have my love and support I'm here if you need me. Are we allowed to post our email addys? I feel I can give faster support if I give my email address since I have a blackberry and I get emails faster then if I was using a computer to surf mdjunction. Anyway if you want my addy ask and ill give it to you Smile

Urgent care sucks most of the time. I swear I don't give a damn what the dr is comfortable with when I KNOW what works but he did give me a good idea. Getting a neuro note or a copy of pain contract stating the condition and allowed treatments.

Hey all

Have any of you tried a saline IV for migraine? I live in Australia and it is standard practice for migraine. Its the best thing for it I've found. When my own drugs won't touch it the saline is the ONLY thing that works. Does anyone else find that?

I absolutely HATE being treated like a drug addict! I get it from the pharmisist occasionally because I am there so often getting pain killers. It annoys me because if I was a drug addict I would go to lots of different pharmacies and different doctors. The reason I only go to one is so I can keep track of what I take (and they are the cheapest). I totally understand that they need to ask questions and make sure I am being responsible and only taking it for pain but sometimes there someone will serve me and I will just feel this judgement washing off them. Some are awesome. Usually people who know someone with migraine are pretty understanding.

Sorry got into a bit of a rant there! Lol this is a topic very close to my heart!

Hope you are all experiencing a low pain day!

BlanchOlive: I also live in Australia and was given a saline IV for post lumbar puncture headache which helped at the time. Where abouts in Australia are you from?

I am fortunate that my pharmacist isn't at all judgemental as far as my medications go, and let me tell you, I have tried some pretty heavy duty pain killers in the past. He does however print out product information on all my prescriptions and discuss how to take them before dispensing.

Hi Suki17,

I'm from Brisbane, you?

That's so good about your chemist. Some can be really nice which makes life a lot easier. I love the ones that go through things with you and print out information.

I went to the doctor today and asked about pain meds. He told me that if you get a lot of scripts for strong pain killers that the doctor has to send off a letter to the national drug something or other and tell them you are a drug addict. So crazy! I was just like "ah yeah don't worry about it they don't really do much anyway". Maybe it's just me but I really don't get how anyone could get high off oxicontin or oxicondine or most ones. I think I have a high tolerance so they don't really touch the pain. Mersyndol or for a classic migraine Naramig are pretty much the only things that work. And I think mersydol only works because of the doxsylomine which I found out today is an antihistamine. Palaramine doesn't have the same affect tho. Weird. What ones have you found to work?
