MDJunction to me

MissNikkiAnn"When you have an illness with the name "Non-Familial Dysautonomia" (a name that most people, and even doctors, have never heard of), you need a network
of people who understand the name and the symptoms/issues that come with it.
MDJunction led me to that network of people during a very confusing and sickly time. For this I am thankful. And for this reason I try my best to give back to other members the same care and help that I received through MDJunction.

New to this forum and see the wealth of info from all of you. I need some advice and knowledge please. I have just been diagnosed. I have been dealing with meniere's about 4 months and have had drop attacks, loss of balance, ringing in my left ear, loss of hearing, dizziness, rides on the Tilt-a-whirl, incredibly terrible headaches and now my right ear is going thru the same thing.

I am a full time administrative assistant (secretary as my son says), full time student and actually was trying to get a wedding stationery business off the ground with my daughter getting married next September.

I am getting so that I either have nausea with earpain and ringing or headache that I can't get thru a day anymore. I am taking diuretics and a monthly iv steroid... what can I do myself! I am watching my sodium intake. but what else is there! I have to keep my job and I am struggling! Help please!

How do you get thru the day!

Welcome and I hope you're feeling much better. My advice to you is to follow a low-salt, low-sugar , no processed foods, no caffeine and alcohol diet. You should see an ENT or neurotologist whichever one knows how to treat Meniere's and has experience treating this condition. There's also a theory that MD is caused by a virus and some doctors prescribe Acyclovir or Valtrex. Taking vitamins is also very helpful please click on the following links for more information about vitamins/supplements: http://www.menieres-disease.ca/karin_david.htm, www.menieresfoundation.org/johnsregimen.htm

These are the names of the doctors that treat MD with antivirals:

And Dr. Richard Gacek in Worcester, MA

UMass Memorial Medical Center

University Campus

55 Lake Avenue North, HA-221

Worcester, MA 01655

508-856-4162

Dr. Richard Gacek in Mobile, AL

2880 Dauphin Street

Mobile, AL 36606

Phone: (251) 473-1900

I am not a doctor; only someone with the same medical condition that would like to help you.

Please feel better soon!
