Miriam, I've got the "off" in the head this morning too. I hope your "off," turns off.

Last week I was doing great, feeling better than I have been in three years. However, on Sunday through Monday morning I had what I would describe as a prolonged Vertigo Attack Lite: I was mostly okay to go through the day and get things done but there was spinning when I moved my head a little bit quickly. I also felt like I was in some weird other world (that's how the pre-surgery attacks started to be like in November, as if I were in some other dimension...or something). Along with everything else, it was also becoming bizarre.

Anyway, the days that have been good, have been fantastic. The best part is regaining my sense of humor and being able to completely relax. I'm looking forward to more types of these days.

So Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays/New Year to everyone.

Merry Christmas to all who celebrate! Sorry to hear of the "off" days. I am now 8 weeks post surgery and no vertigo or dizzines in 6 weeks-Hallelujah! Once in a while the ear feels full but then it soon recovers (the shunt doing it's job!?) Like the rest of you, each day spin-free is a gift, with the hope of many more to come. Best wishes to all!

OK - life is still good!! No attacks but still a little lite headed in the am as I get out of bed. I'm pretty sure it's due to sinus congestion so I'll just deal with it with optimism and not stress. I actually forget about it throughout the day - just get reminded first thing in the am that I have MD. I also started eating like I did when I was first diagnosed. I cut way, way, way back on the sugar (lost 7lbs even over the holidays!)and pretty much have taken all processed carbs out of my diet. So I basically eat 100% fresh...takes longer to prepare and a lot of thought and energy Smile but I'm finding it's worth it. I have more strength at the gym and basically feel a lot better all day. Made the yummiest tomato soup from scratch - haven't had tomato soup for years cuz of the sodium from canned soup. So I'm finding some joy and fun in returning to the old ways...this time by choice. Happy New Year to all and keep on healing and improving. I really appreciate the chatting and encouragement and feedback I get from all of you.

Miriam

Things are pretty good on this end. I'm back on the mountain for a few days and have been without vertigo since well before Christmas. I've still got a bit of the Meniere's haze, buzzing in the ear, and lost hearing, but most importantly is seems that my balance is mostly back. I go in for my post-op visit with the doctor in a week. I'm fairly optimistic that the improvement will continue.

I hope all is well with everyone else. Glad I had the surgery.

Went to Calif for the Pose Parade/Rose Bowl and stayed with a high school friend of my brother's. This guys wife has just been diagnosed with Meniere's...I felt so bad for her. It was nice to be able to answer questions and thanks to all I've learned from all of you related our belief that stress and exhaustion are things we can avoid and hopfully help avoid some spells. She's an RN and works 12 hr shiftsSad Had to have her husband pick her up a couple of times since she was too dizzy to drive home...sound familiar? On the other hand I've been doing great and I have gone back to very small amounts of carbs and no sugar and I think I've cleared out as lot of "haze" and stuffiness. I also think my exercise (Crossfit) has really helped me. Not much weight loss but oh well - I feel a lot better. I should know better - processed foods and sugars just make my body feel yuk! Anyway - that's what's happening here. Hope all is well with everyone elseSmile

HI all. I am 2 1/2 months post-op and doing well now. Unfortunately I had a bad time on Jan. 2. I went to a small movie theater with a friend and we got there late. WE ended up sittin way near the front with a big screen and overly loud sound. Lokking up with the images whirling past during the previews totally set off the vertigo. My friend, a veteran of labyrinthitis, knew how I felt and got me home (no movie Sad. After a nap, that night I had a full blown attack, you all know the details. Since then I am eating better, off most sugar, lots of veggies, fruit and lean protein (no more holiday goodies!) and no big screen movies. I feel much better with no more attacks since. Back to some snowshoeing and cross country skiing. Life is good. I'm glad I had the shunt done.

Glad to hear good reports from others. Happy 2011!

I was not aware that sugar could affect meniere's. however I normally have a sweet tooth and since diagnosis (approx the time I first experienced major symptoms), my taste has changed. The salt was the hardest thing for me to cut back on, but I don't really care for sweets anymore and rarely eat any. I also was having food cravings - avocados, canteloupe, bananas, tomatoes, spinach - and then I found out that I had low potassium - it's amazing how my body has been guiding me in the right direction! I also have to be careful with bright lights and loud noises together - not a good combination. Hope you continue to do well!
