I am pretty new at this, but hear goes. I have been addicted to marijuana for about 10 years! I function okay (as far as appearance goes...) I have been wanting to quit for probebly the last 5 years, but have never been quite able to do it. Now is the time & I need this type of support. I was just diagnosed with something that probebly explains this whole addition thing, I am hopeful of a new life. Biggest problem that I am having is getting people to understand how serious & detrimental this addition is! All I ever hear is "it's just pot" or "it could be meth" and even "you dont look like a drug addict." These are all the type of comments that got me to where I am now. This is what I used to tell myself. Any suggestions on how to respond???

Thanks-

Talie

Hi Talie, Welcome to the group.

There are many reasons to quit smoking marijuana.....it is bad for your health. It is a psychological addiction and is very powerful. It has been proven to cause withdrawls so you may need to seek medical advice if they are hard to deal with.

As for those people with comments....let them think what they want. It isn't their life and they have nothing to do with you wanting to get healthy. They don't need to understand. As long as you do, that is what is important. This is for you....not them!!! Are they friends or family? If it is, then they aren't very good friends or family......they would want what is best for you. Don't use them as an excuse to keep living a life you don't want!

You may want to talk to Samantha and read her posts. She just stopped smoking awhile ago and is doing great!

I'm sure with a little help, you can do the same.

If there is anything I can do, please let me know. I'm here for you anytime. Take care. Your friend,Chris

hey talie-

i understand how hard it can be to quit, especially when alot of people dont understand the seriousness of ones condition. i am an addict myself, and although i know numerous other people who smoke on a regular basis, it seesms to me they do not understand the impact it has on us personally. the fact that you recognize you have a problem is one of the hardest things to realize sometimes. its hard to admit sometimes that we arent perfect. i know im not. but yea shoot me a line anytime if you need someone to talk to. take care!
