[b]I used to be a food addict where I would eat for comfort, now I am 385lbs down from 400. I traded that addiction for pot, and I have to say the binge of 2.5 months smoking everyday was great. I got some hallucingenic action out of it, that to for me was a positive. When I was stoned I didn't have to care about anything, which was quite nice. It took everything off my plate that was upsetting and unpleasant. I am bipolar and it calmed me down quite well. My question is "why is sobriety even important? Why would it benefit me?

I was always a bit of a loner, and never really liked people for the most part. That was long before I started pot. I really don't have any closeness with anybody for the most part. I should have mentioned that on my previous post, I do apologize.

HI Clarese, welcome to the group. Everyone is different when it comes to a reason to reach for sobriety. We all have different reasons for using in the first place.

I started drinking to drown the hurt from being abused as a child. I didn't know any other way of dealing with it. The pain I felt inside was so overwhelming. I stared with alcohol. Drinking when I was 10 years old. I also ate and gained alot of weight. Just to hide from myself and everyone around me. After awhile, the alcohol and food became an enemy. It was more painful to continue my addictive behaviors than to deal with the issues in my life. I was so sad all the time. I would cut myself just to feel anything. Then I finially decided that I was sick of hurting all the time. I was tired of doing the same things day after day. I decided that I deserved to be loved and cared about. Especially by myself.

That is why I decided to get clean and sober. I hope that you find peace in your life. No matter what you decide to do. Everyone deserves to be happy and loved. If there is anything I can help you with, please let me know.

Your Friend, Chris

I find I am far more unhappy when I sober. I am applying for disability for my bi-polar, and have been advised that I need to be clean or otherwise be denied benefits. I will listen to that advise, but I feel that this sobriety is under duress and I don't accept it. My plans are when the process of disability application is complete I am going smoke my brains to pieces the second I get a chance to. I am ready to mark a date on the calendar for that first night, and I have a bong and pipe ready for it.
