Where's the research on this matter? How are people suppose to have an honest and reasonable discussion with out the science?

Myth: Marijuana is Highly Addictive. Long term marijuana users experience physical dependence and withdrawal, and often need professional drug treatment to break their marijuana habits.

Fact: Most people who smoke marijuana smoke it only occasionally. A small minority of Americans - less than 1 percent - smoke marijuana on a daily basis. An even smaller minority develop a dependence on marijuana. Some people who smoke marijuana heavily and frequently stop without difficulty. Others seek help from drug treatment professionals. Marijuana does not cause physical dependence. If people experience withdrawal symptoms at all, they are remarkably mild.

Now don't get me wrong; please read information provided in my post closely. It states that a small minority do develop a dependence on marijuana and seek help from drug treatment professionals. But a majority of cannabis consumers have no problem. I believe the majority do not deserve to be treated like criminals because of the few whom need help.

I'm not one to tell people what to believe, but I just don't understand why you are even at a marijuana addiction forum if you don't believe it exists. If people are saying they feel they have a problem, it takes a lot of courage to admit there is a problem. Anything can be addictive, even if it does not present physical withdrawal symptoms (i.e. shopping, gambling, etc.).

If you feel you don't have a problem, that's great. A lot of people have the ability to smoke occasionally without the cravings. Unfortunately, I am not one of those people. My impression is that this site is here for people who need support and need to relate to one another. It is very insensitive to say to struggling people that their addiction is not valid.

I don't know what brought you to this site (although your statement "i need a puff" gives me an idea)- but please try to be more respectful to those who are reaching out for help. We are vulnerable people who need support, not to be told their addiction isn't real. I don't think pot smokers are bad people or that it is even this terrible drug that society may make it out to be- at one point I may have even agreed with your statements. It wasn't until I was able to realize how out of control my smoking was that I came to this conclusion.

Anyway, I'm not going to tell you what to say or what not to say, but I just wish you could be more respectful of people who can admit to themselves they have a problem. If you don't have a problem, then why are you here?
