Hello!

I was wondering if anyone has heard of or experienced chronic, intermittent dermatitis YEARS after contracting malaria. I had malaria 16 years ago and am suffering from chronic dermatitis that comes and goes, and is hot, and very itchy. I thought it might be associated with the fact that the malaria parasites lie dormant in the liver. Any thoughts/ideas/comments/related experiences greatly appreciated!

Hello, I searched for this support group because I wanted to know if others who had malaria years ago still feel like they are suffering effects. I was growing frustrated with reading the medical information that once you are cured from the malaria, you no longer have symptoms after 3-4 years. I got malaria 9 years ago - the malaria-like symptoms (feverm headache, etc.) only returned for about the next 4 years. However, since then, I become ill at the drop of a hat, especially in fall and spring. I feel certain that it is because of the malaria still affecting me. This is a long response, to say that while I have not heard specifically of dermatitis, it seems very likely to me that it could be from the malaria. I know that a challenged liver will often show itself through the skin. I hope that this helps you.
