today is the day of the month I see my Lyme docter. It takes All day, and I spend at least $ 1000.00. He is excellent at explaining things, but the lymehas brought on so many other problems that I leave the appt. Confused( I do bring someone in with me). I feel as though It is so overwhelming that I black out. I cannot even ask my mother( who comes with me) because I do not even remember what the questions were? It's like having PTSD! Dizzy

FYI...Before I got Lyme I had NEVER had anxiety...now I can spot people having it and panic attacks..Exp at the doctors office.

Anxiety is terrible. My first couple LLMD appts I couldn't remember much of anything...Between being so very sick and the anxiety it was all a blurr.. I would have to call the nurse to get my med regiment that the doc already went over with me...

But now my doc waits for me in the nurse area.. He is interested in the tiniest little things I learn. He has only been treating Lyme about 3 years, when his 12 year old was dx with MS...He found Lyme in her, but he is slammed at work and his other daughter has Autism..So his family life is also busy. He is only one man and there isn't enough time in the day for him to study and research..

I LOVE my LLMD, he has saved my life and so many others.

Well I ended up writing you a book...LOL

Hope everythig goes well today and you remember some of it. Have you tried Xanax? I take it maybe 1-2 times a month.. I take .5mg to help me out in tuff situations. Some people on the Lyme forum swear by it.

Let us know how it went.

I remember how hard and scary that was. I finally kept a diary every day

because I couldn't remeber what I felt like from day to day

or even if I had felt something or when it happened.

That was such a great helpful thing to do.

I also kept a seperate notebook

that I wrote down questions and concerns

or what ever I might want

to ask the doctor or be sure I told him.

You might want to have who ever is with you

write down everything they hear the doctor say

or ask if you can use a tape recorder to listen to later.

I always use a tape recorder when ever I want to remember what is said anytime anywhere.

I don't actually even tell people I am doing it

That might be wrong but it is for my handicap only not foul play.

Good luck and be patient with yourself.

That is a great idea to keep a diary. And to write down questions to ask the doc when you think of them.. I do both of these and it helps me a lot.

I've seen many people take in tape recorders too. I take notes on key things the doc tells me.

It hard to keep track of everything so it helps so much to write it down..

I'm an Advocate

One trick I found in dealing with my anxiety - is to remind myself that this is a feeling that is being created in my brain and it is triggering responses in my body...so that physically my entire body "thinks" its anxious...

From there I encourage my MIND to push through it - as my mind knows that what is on the other side so to say - really isnt as bad as this disease is making me feel it is...

Remember to breath - and that with depression, anxiety and pain - we have to learn to interrupt the negative reactions - with calm ones that are more positive...

Sounds much easier said then done...but with practice it can be done...and done very very well...I am living it...

There are also dietary and supplement changes that can be made to help with this - better then Rx's can...

And I just can't keep living this way

I go Friday for my dr's appt and I am already in panic mode. So I totally understand what you mean. I didn't remember anything from my first appt, thank God my husband was there. There was so much info and I was in tears for the whole appt. Good idea on the diary and write things down to ask the dr. How did you appt go?

I have had a kind of anxiety disorder for most of my adult life, until I learned to control it without meds.

I was doing well for years and then got Lyme. Now the anxiety is back and I am taking meds to help it occassionally.

It is terrible when the anxiety hits, I can't breathe and talk at the same time, get chest pains, or start sweating..panic attacks present in so many different ways with me, sometimes I get hives.

Christine is correct about working through it with positive thoughts and surrounding yourself in a calm setting to ease of out of the panic mode.

Although it is hard to do, with practice it can be done. I was doing well for years until the Lyme took hold of me.

But I still try to use the same relaxation techniques that I have been doing for years.

Sometimes, I find reading helps me escape and stops my anxiety..a good book to get lost into.

I have panic attacks periodically but tend to have anxiety now alot. It is very frightening.I am hoping it is just part of post menopause. I also have depression now from mild to severe. I am going to ask the Dr. to put me on hormone replacement and see if all that clears up. My mother takes it. She falls apart when she doesn't get the treatment and she is the strongest woman I have ever known. She get crowns and root canals with NO PAIN MEDS or NUMBING. OMG I beg them to put me to sleep.
