Just a reminder that you should not get a live Christmas tree, as they can bring ticks right into your home! A post from Bettyg just reminded me of this. That is how she got lyme disease, from her parents Christmas tree, 38 years ago! Instead, opt for one of the artificial trees, they have done some great things with them these days, some look so real, and even come pre-lit! If you must get a real tree, or spend time in anyone's house who has a real tree, be sure to check your family for ticks very carefully.
Please do not take anything I say as medical advice. I am not a doctor.

I'll miss that lovely smell. But will buy a can of everglade pine spray or something.

Yankee Candle "Mistletoe" candles and oils smell amazingly like those great Spruce and Fir christmas trees.....I bring them out every Christmas.
No it's not all in my head......I have Lyme Disease

I am not a Doctor and I've never even played one on TV, I am just a Lab rat with Lyme, experimenting on myself.

All of this makes sence. Just wanted to know if ticks are attracted to x-mass trees or if it's just because of where the x-mass trees come from. It might be a stupid question but I always want to learn. I live in NM and got lyme disease out of state. Should I still be care full of x-mass trees? I'm thankfull someone brought this up because I didn't even think about it.

The candles do smell wonderful!

I was made aware of this by Dr. J in CT, the pediatrician...

I have always LOVED real tress and going to pick one out every year with my dad. I'd always hoped my daughter would be able to enjoy the same...Sad

Oh well, an ounce of prevention...as they say...

They are a bit of a mess now that I'm the mom having to clean up after the darn thing! Tongue

Besides, in today's economy, buy a great fake now and save yourself the big price tag every year on the most wonderful tree you can find that may or may not actually fit your house...Grin

PS...Dr. J also warned me of bringing in firewood for a wood burning stove/fireplace. Another big bummer because I love a hot roaring fire flickering against my aching body as I try desparately to shake the bone chilling pain winter brings...

At least we are having this discussion now, when perhaps it may do some good. These kinds of tips should be included with all TBI prevention material, don't ya think? Is it already and I've just missed it all this while?

And of course the standard reminder...get your pets and animals treated for flea and tick prevention using one of the monthly drops that your vet gives you...NOT the ones from Petsmart or other such pet store. They just don't work as well.

Happy Holidays!!! Silly

I am in no way a medical professional...
Just a patient for 15 years...

Here to share, learn and support those that seek to do the same!
