MDJunction to me

MissNikkiAnn"When you have an illness with the name "Non-Familial Dysautonomia" (a name that most people, and even doctors, have never heard of), you need a network
of people who understand the name and the symptoms/issues that come with it.
MDJunction led me to that network of people during a very confusing and sickly time. For this I am thankful. And for this reason I try my best to give back to other members the same care and help that I received through MDJunction.

I have had problems sleeping that sometimes are not helped with medicines. I have a Zune (which is like an iPod but by Microsoft) and I downloaded an audiobook.

I wasn't even thinking it would help me sleep but I noticed that even with the interesting books, something made my mind shut down and go to sleep.

Maybe it is just me, but I know you will try just about anything that might help. I use Audible.com but you can get the audiobooks through other means.

Hope it helps someone.

Follow your dreams---except that one where you are walking around in your underwear.

that's a really good suggestion!

My husband and I found something YEARS ago that really helps with sleep and relaxation. It is called Brainwave generator (you can get it from download.com) and you must have headphones to use it. It plays certain brainwaves to achieve certain effects.

When I want to sleep, I play a program called "deep sleep," which plays lots of theta waves. I really like it a lot...and it's free...so some of you might think of trying it! I love it, and there are TONS of programs for different things, including pain relief!

*hugs*

I have a relaxation exercise I do before I go to bed that I learned from Dr. Andrew Weil's book Spontaneous Healing.

1. Place you tongue in the yogic position (on the roof of your mouth right behind the upper teeth) and keep it there throughout the whole exercise.

2. Inhale deeply through your nose for four seconds.

3. Hold the breath in your chest for seven seconds.

4. Exhale an audible breath through your mouth (keeping your tongue in place) for eight seconds. (It might be a little tricky to keep the tongue in place for the exhale but try puckering your lips. It gets easier over time).

5. Repeat three more times.

I hope this helps. Check out Weil's book too, I really enjoyed it.

kristie have you tried the pain help program they offer? If you have, how did it work for you?

Melatonin no longer works for me...and I ran out of muscle relaxers and no local doc since I moved...

I'm having a HECK of a time getting to sleep. Last night I was up until 4 am. and then I had to get up at 5:30. This has been one heck of a day for me already.

With Him we "live" no matter the circumstances. At His feet peace of mind can be found. Peace that passes all understanding is my quest now and forever.
