Wishing your wife a great day on Tuesday! I'm sure she is in good hands with you being a pro at this!

Do you still see the Dr. every two weeks? This is a 2 hour drive each way for me- how far or you?

Healthy wishes,

wantabe

Hi Wantabe, I'm responding for my husband. We also have a 2+ hour drive each way and will continue every 2 weeks for as long as we both (or at least one of us) have a picc line. It's a long way, but worth it. My husaband has traveled there every 2 weeks for over 2 months. We aren't exactly sure when his treatment will be completed, but it does not matter, now that I am beginning. Wish we'd known my relapse was going to be this bad so I could have started my picc around the same time as him. I wish you a great Tuesday.....with continued healing!!!!

update:

Tuesday was easy! Only discomfort was two shots at the beginning. Nurse and I talked the whole time about Lyme and it was over before I knew it.

Had 1st treatment in hospital (4 hours) so I was able to read a good book. Had a little discomfort in the 1st two days with stiffness.

Home Health Care has been very informative. They had to come both Wednesday and Thursday because of leaking around the insertion site. Still leaking, but is being watched for infection and am hoping it stops soon. Just a bother. I have to change the dressing a lot. No pain or discomort now.

Glad to hear your procedure went well. I'm responding on my husband's site (I don't want to set up my own because we'll get twice as many emails....too many repeats). Anyway, I had a hickman pic placed in my chest area. My first infusion was at home Tues afternoon by a home health nurse. She returned today. It has gone well and I too have a little leaking. My dressing was just changed out today and it looked great under the dressing, so we'll just keep an eye for infection at the site. I have been feeling better with the IV, so I think I've overdone some small projects at home. Tomorrow I plan to lay low.

My husband's pic was leaking this week after his dressing change on Tues so the nurse changed it again today. I'm not sure how common it is.

Anyway,Best of luck with your treatment and healing.

Glad all went well for you as well!

I'm always curious (thus the Curious George icon)

Why the difference in ports? Is it easier to take care of it in the chest area? What meds are you taking in the iv?

I can't imagine if both my husband & myself were sick-nothing would get done here! Take it easy Saturday, you deserve it!

Have a great weekend!

Sauna time-- then bed,

wantabe

Suzie is already in bed. But I thought I'd check the site one last time before I hit the rack too.

With both of us sick it has been hard. Sometimes we just eat out. All lawn work is contracted out this summer. We filed an extension for our taxes because our brain and energy levels just could not deal with getting the job done.

Well the upside is we are getting better. We just finished the Taxes this afternoon. It blew us away to see how much out of pocket our expenses were. We also completed a bunch of projects around the house that we had put off for way too Long

Thank you for telling Suzie to take it easy this weekend. She is just a go-getter. Always cares about everyone in the family except herself. She is simply wonderful. But she needs to just relax and heal. She has started to listen to the CD's Dr V recommends at her office on stress reduction and healing and they are very nice. You may want to get them the next time you see her.

Suzie had to have the hickman pic for two reasons. 1) She is 5'2" tall, very fit, but also petite. So the veins in her arm are too small for a pic line through any of the arm veins. 2) She is a Dental Hygienist and preferred to keep her arm free.

She was on oral Doxy but Dr V switched her to IV Rocef so she could get out in the sun.

We will see Dr V again this next Thursday. If you are the same schedule give us a shout.

we wish you speedy recovery.

Hope your weekend was restful! My next appointment is on the 11th.

IV's are going well. The leaking around the insertion site is really a pain. I have to change the gauze dressing a few times everyday and the plastic dressing every 2-3 days. We are trying something new today to see if the pic line can be more stabilized.

I hope it works!

Headaches have improved a lot! I hope this continues.

I hope you are both seeing improvement.

I always have to ask ??'s...here are a few...

Have you herxed on the doxy at all? (I haven't yet)

How long is your daily treatment? (4 hours for me)

Continue to rest and get well,

K.

Just a quick tip! If the area where the PICC line becomes tender (chest or shoulder/arm) an old-fashioned hot water bottle REALLY helps! It's how I made it through the first week with the thing!
