I went pretty regularly with an MS dx to help w/muscle spasms.

My doctor thinks the Lyme is in my tissues. So if I am herxing is it OK to get a massage? or will it make the herx worse? Thanks, HELP!

a lot of people get a lymphatic massage as a helpful detox with herxing. lyme is EVERYWHERE in your body...massage may help you, and make sure you drink LOTS of water to help flush your system. If you are in pain, the massage can help. Try to find someone who is understanding of LD

I feel that the massage will probably only help when you are herxing, but everyone is different. If it makes you feel worse then don't do it. I highly believe that you should get lymph drainage massage(which is easy to do but make sure that the person knows what they are doing, and watch what they do because you can then do it yourself at home everyday); this will help to drain out all of the crap that is causing you to herx and all of the gunk that builds up in your body because your organs are working as well as they could due to the lyme.

Thanks! I was afraid the rubbing would release more toxins and make it worse. I'm making an appt ASAP.

Make sure you drink a lot of water after...Once in a blue moon I will feel like crap for the day, but I know its working so I don't mind the feeling, it does not happen all the time. Plus my insurance pays for them 30 a year...

Julie, nice that ins. pays! Sometimes they do if it's thru a chiropractors office. And a lot of chiro's are using massage therapists now. Yes, lots of water for sure, helps to flush the toxins out.

HI!

I am a massage therapist with 10 years experience. I first worked with a Lyme client in 2000 and have had many since. Here in Winona, MN, we are in a hotbed of Lyme activity.

Massage is definitely ok to do with Lymes. I should also point out that there are different forms of massage with different goals in mind. While some respond well to oil/Swedish/deep tissue massage some of the time, others find it beneficial to have shiatsu/tui na/thailand massage and/or energy work such as Reiki or nei gong ge lao.

If someone comes into my office with bad symptoms of Lyme, I have found that energizing work such as tui na and shiatsu work best for them. If the system is already depleted, I don't want to do anything such as deep tissue work which may deplete the person further and possible cause more rough symptoms.

It all depends on the client, the day they are having, and what their past experience with massage has been.

When looking for a therapist, make sure you interview them about their experience first. Any therapist worth their salt will gladly share this with you. There is much inexperience out there in the massage field and one must be choosy. Work with someone you feel a connection to and do not worry about checking out several therapists until you find the one right for you.

I advise finding someone who can do both and Eastern and Western style work and have had experience with Lyme disease/FM/CF and such.

I hope this helps.

Wishing you all the health you can stand,

Garret

Hi Garret:

Thanks for the info, I'm going to ask about this as I get them weekley and it really helps my neck due to lyme....But after 2 hours the pain is back, so I'm printing out what you said to show them and see if they do any of the above....I'm sure they do. My Cirpo deals with lyme up here, we are loaded with it...

Again, thanks for the info

Julie
