Hello all!

My family and I are looking into lyme literate doctors. While I have not been diagnosed with lyme yet, the people we know who have had lyme, and many of the wonderful folks here, have told me not to give up and to find a lyme literate doctor even though my other doctors say it's not lyme (even though I've been tested for everything under the sun, and it's all came back negative!)

Anyway, one of the doctors we were talking to over the phone said that the treatment they use is an IV of Rocephin. It's not one of the antibiotics that I normally see associated with lyme.

Does anyone here have any experience with Rocephin? Or know anyone who has? I'm curious to find out how it's worked for others.

Thank you!

Hi Aly,

yes, IV rocephin is used to treat lyme....but you definitly need to find a lyme doc...that's usually not the starting protocol...and you would need to be tested for co infections as well.....

Please do not take anything I say as medical advice. I am not a doctor.

Yes, I am currently on the Rocephin as of 3/25/08 I had my 3rd picc line inserted. The Rocephin worked last time, it took a while because my Immune system is such a mess. This time I hope it works also. For how long is the question though. Rocephin is one of the common drugs for LYME via IV delivery. I have a great doctor that come highly recommended, He is on Morristown, Dr. Max DeShaw. Best ofluck, don't ever give up!

I spent several months getting Rochephin shots in the ass and then I had 9 months of rochephin in a picc line. She is right, usually they try oral antibiotics first because they are slightly less toxic and the picc line can have complications. What is your location?

i guess i wonder, i did rocephin also, but i never hear any of the horror stories that went with it, not trying to discourage in any way, but was i the only one that had to stay horizontal the whole month or are most people just sugar coating the treatment?....like i said, the treatment as far as i knew worked, but for trying antibiotics orally only was if it was detected early enough, if not they do no good. northern mn here so not sure what docs say in other areas, plus long time ago so dont recall all the fine details thankx to memory loss

oh, there are horror stories out there. I think many people don't post it, I know when I'm herxing, I'm usually not on here too much, as I think it is with all of us. I think we've become so accustomed to living this way, we don't even think about it. Treatment (although hasn't been IV yet), has been aweful. I thought I felt bad before! Now I get new symptoms, my pain is so much worse than ever. When I first started treatment, I was very twitchy (like parkinsons), then that started to go away, now when I start to herx it comes back, along with vomiting. This is just ridiculous. Really. Nobody should have to live like this...

Morning Williebe~

Ok, I had to keep seacrcing to find out what "HERX " meant. It wasn't in dictionary's because it of course is a shortened version of the full scientific name.

The Herxheimer reaction (also known as Jarisch-Herxheimer or herx) occurs when large quantities of toxins are released into the body as bacteria (typically Spirochetal bacteria) die, due to antibiotic treatment.

Ok, now we know. Ihope you have a good day. Where R Ya located geographicaly?

By the way is there spell check on this site? I am new to it! LOL

Now I see U R in Northern MO, sorry missed that the first time. It's the LYME Brain problem. I blame it on that when I can.
