Hello again, everyone. I am a soon to be 29 y/o male with suspected chronic Lyme disease.

I have been taking the Buhner protocol herbs for my symptoms for about two years now. I've been doing much better than before, but not 100% better. My primary symptoms are fatigue (physical and mental) and sexual symptoms.

I finally had some lab work done, and I was in for a surprise. The physician says that my testosterone (free and total) and luteinizing hormone are both lower than they should be for a man my age. They are technically inside the reference range, but the doctor says that they should be higher.

Therefore, I have consulted a physician near-by who works a lot with hormone replacement therapy. She is a urologist by credential, but it sounds like she primarily deals with age-related hormonal changes, especially for menopausal women. Many of her patients are much older than me.

She sent me back to LabCorp for more extensive lab work, but before that comes back, I would like to know if anyone here has anything to say to me about a possible relationship between hormonal imbalances and Lyme disease. My previous physician says that Lyme disease and other disease organisms may have evolved to cause hormonal imbalances in order to make the host body environment more hospitable to them.

You will probably find that your body temp is a couple of degrees lower than normal. This causes all hormone levels to be on the low side. Lyme does this to us all. Quite common.

doglick, my temperature has been low for at least decade.

I was looking for was any information or ideas that I might want to bring up at my appointment to have my lab results read to me. It is scheduled for Friday, June 29.

I believe that the physician I'll be seeing has bioidentical hormones as her weapon of choice against hormonal imbalances. I've been wondering if my ability to create hormones has been permanently damaged by the illness requiring lifelong treatment.

No one knows. This disease is too new. I suspect that there is a mix if permanent and heal able damage. The nerve damage appears to be permanent. There have been no studies of people that have recovered. Since the CDC spouts that the disease doesn't exist, I am willing to bet that even if they knew, they wouldn't say.
