Has anyone here on this forum thought about or considered treating their lyme disease strictly with herbs? I have been on 3 rounds of Doxycycline and everytime I stop my symptoms gradually creep back. I have been doing much research and I have also read Stephen Buhner's book Healing Lyme. I am considering going this route and would appreciate anyone's input.

I think herbs are a great idea. And there are people out there who can't tolerate meds at all and do herbal protocols. Buhner is a GREAT source. I highly recomend him.

That being said, I think that approaching this from a multifacted point of view is also a good idea. Not just the drugs, not just herbs, not just detoxing, but combine them all, it will give you much more ammo in your arsenal to fight this. That is if you can tollerate all the above.

If you are going to go all herbal, Buhner is a great one to follow. I think there are some other books out there about healing naturally as well, please let us know what you decide

Please do not take anything I say as medical advice. I am not a doctor.

Jaime,

Thank you for your reply!

I agree that treating lyme needs to be a multifaceted approach. I am currently searching for a doctor that accepts insurance but so far no such luck. Currently I can not afford to pay out of pocket for a LLMD. I decided to take matters in to my own hands (so to speak) and decided it would be more beneficial for me to go the herb route. At least, I am doing something to keep the lyme disease at bay. I found Stephen Buhner's protocol to be the most agressive while at the same time being the most cost effective, especially if I decide to buy the herbs in bulk and encapsulate the herbs myself. I also, like the idea that antibiotics can be taken with the protocol if needed. I have done extensive research so I am not jumping into this blind. I was given the name and number of a certified health practitioner in my area and have decided to contact her. Maybe, she can give me overall support/guidance with taking the hersb. Right now I am leaning towards going the herbal route. I will definitely keep you posted on my progress.

Thank you for your support. I have lurked on other forums and I truly feel that this is the forum for me. Everybody on this forum seems to be very supportive and nonjudgemental. I truly believe one's decision to treat their disease is a personal one and no one has the right to judge. Thanks for listening!

Happy New Year!!

Hi:

That is the way I'm going..I see my Cirpro. on Monday he does all Natural and works with Lyme patients. My doctor just informed me yesterday that there is no such thing as chronic lyme...JERK...

I can't see and LLMD as I'm allergic to 99.9% of the abx on the market so why waste my $$$ as I see it.

Will let you know how it goes on Monday

Julie

I'm glad you like this forum. We try to keep this user friendly. I started at a different forum, and there were just too many people, and too many opinions, and nobody respected anyone elses opinions, and I agree, choosing a treatment is personal, and nobody should be attacked for what they choose.

I found out today that Buhner has another book called "herbal antibiotics" or something like that, I have that coming from my library, as well as the other one everyone talks about. I can't wait to see what they say.

Honestly, I really believe that going at this from all directions is the only way to go from the research I've done. Especially for me. I have unbelievable pain, and it seemed as though most people on other boards had pain, but not like I do. I have found people in my same situation, and we have found that yes, lyme disease does cause pain, but there are other things involved such as active viruses, which can be unreal as far as pain goes, and they lay dormant near the spine, and anyone who has had coritsone injections near or in the spine (i had 12 IN MY SPINE), reactivates them....big big big issue here, very dangerous. Also, candida is a big issue. We all have yeast in our bodies, and for women reading this, just because you don't get the typical "yeast infection" we think about with abx, doesn't mean you don't have candida systemically. This also can cause horrible pain, and many of the lyme symptoms, so we need to get that under control. Parasites also can be a big deal, heavy metals, and so on. Of course, tackling all these at once can be dangerous, you need to do it slow and steady. So for me, I have been infected for 20 years, that's 20 years all these things have been driving down my immune system. Now I'm taking abx long term. ... in reality, these drugs are toxic, but they are more good than bad for most of us, so therefore we choose to take them.... but at the same time, I feel I need to build up that immune system that's been torn down all these years, with vitamins, minerals, supps, herbs, etc. And Bruscano says even for people who can't tollerate abx, like Julie, building up the immune system is the way to go, our bodies are amazing things, and CAN AND DO fight this off. I'm trying to work on an exercise regimine I can do, as the O2 and heat is someting the lyme hates.

I would be very interested in some of the research you've done. I'm like a sponge with all this, can't get enough info!

Also, if you pm me the state you live in, I might be able to help find you a LLMD. There are some who take ins. as mine does. Most don't though. But it really sounds as though you have it in the bag here. You've done your research and seem to have a clear understanding, and I think Buhner really knows what he's talkig about. Keep us posted, and let me know some of your research

Warm regards,

j
