Has anyone had any experience with any of these? These were suggested to me and I was wondering side effects and other stuff if possible. Thanks much.

Hi Pammie!

I am on 500mg of Ceftin 3x/day right now. I am tolerating it just fine. Very few side effects other than loose stool and a rotten aftertaste. I am also wondering if I am getting another yeast infection.

Idk if this is related to the Ceftin specifically or just a yeast overload that I would be having a problem with with any abx. I am going to try upping my probiotic AGAIN! I never had yeast problems when I was on Zithromax or in general for that matter. The problem with yeast intially started when I tried Doxy, which was NOT a good fit for me, and why I switched to the Ceftin. My doc wanted Suprax but insurance said no, I had to try Ceftin or something in the same grade first.

I should also note that I am moving in the direction of IV tx but trying to build a case for it for insurance. I am so glad the insurance company, which clearly has my best interest in mind, is in charge of my tx instead of my physician that has known me for almost 10 years! (I hope that came across as sarcastically as it was meant! LOL)

Anyway, Good Luck! Hope this helps...

I switched doctors and I had this bottle of Ceftin sitting around that I guess I was taking a few months back. My insurance company cut me off zithromax. I've been thinking about going natural route since zithromax is $380 for a month supply. Are you taking anything else with the Ceftin?

I'm taking nystatin which is suppose to help with gut problems. Uping the probiotic is a good idea. See if it works.

I completely understand what you mean about the insurance company having your best interest at heart. What a racket?

Thanks so much for helping.

Hey Pammie,

If I can insert here, the only problem I'd say is that if you were taking it a while back, you may not really have enough to help you at this point. IDK how much you've already taken, how much you have left, etc, but you probably don't have enough... It's likely not expired, cuz they usually have a very long shelf life, and if it was only a few months ago, I wouldn't worry about that, but I'd worry about quantity. You're gonna need a good bit of it, and I have a feeling you won't have it. But, IDK what you have, so you'll have to see what you have and decide that.

Also, nystatin is an anti-fungal, so it should help with yeast infections. It's not necessarily going to help with keeping the intestinal flora in place, so if you aren't taking a probiotic, I'd recommend you add one. I have a feeling you'll want one soon enough! LOL

I TOTALLY get both of you and insurance companies. Don't get me started there!

*hugs* and best of luck with the meds

Jen

Just because it's impossible doesn't mean it can't happen.

I'm not a doc, so anything I say is my opinion only. Nothing I say is meant as offense, I offer what I can as help.

I believe in educating myself on all my medical issues and being my own advocate, for no one else with do that on my behalf. I recommend we all do the same!

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Perhaps I truly am insane for expecting these docs to listen to me when I say the same things repeatedly to no avail? LOL. I am tired of seeking out new docs and getting the same result time and again...Forgive me if I seem bitter some days.

Thanks Jen, that's a good point. I didn't even think about not having enough. My brain works sometimes.

I've been on Ceftin (500mg twice a day) for several weeks and now that I'm over my herx, I don't really notice any side effects. I had terrible side effects with Doxy. I take an acidophilous (sp?) pill every day and so far haven't noticed any problems with my GI tract, etc. Good luck!
