MDJunction to me

jenniferdiva"MDJunction has been just an amazing support for me. The people who are on mdj are so nice! Unlike the many other support sites that I have been on. I have made several friends on mdj who are so supportive and so educated about mental illness. Of course non of us are doctors, but we certainly offer each other hugs, opinions, and advice. I have learned a great deal from my friends on mdjunction. I am also encouraging other people who suffer from mental illness to come on to MDJ. It can be a life line." (jenniferdiva)

Anybody experiencing sinus infection like symptoms on top of other lyme symptoms.

For about three months I have been fighting a recurring cold, sore throat, cough which came back positive for strep on the quick test, but no growths on the 48 hour culture.

I took a variety of meds for what was thought to be strep - amoxocillin 10 days, augmentin 10 days, prednisone 6 days (gradual tapper dose), and z-pack 5 days.

I would get better for a short period of time and then soon after finishing the meds I would be worse than before the meds.

The initial slump from the doxy and being at a conference for two days (tons of opportunities to pick up something else) definitely drained me.

Now I can't breathe and I have been sleeping upright on my couch so that I don't cough as much.

Advil, dayquil, and the like make little or no difference.

It definitely wasn't the smartest decision I ever made to start doxy at my conference with strange bacteria around more so than in my common environment.

If anybody has experienced a similar progression I would appreciate some advice on how to get ahead of at least this aspect.

I already take a variety of vitamins - c, d, acidopholus, zinc, centrum, etc.

Which I have now staggered by 2-3 hours to avoid complications with the doxy.

P23 and P41 bands positive, IBS like symptoms caused by possible candida, herbal and antiobiotic treatment, gluten free, candida diet.

I do not have a medical license so my suggestions are limited to personal experience and research. Also I am not a lawyer so if I offer advice relating to school issues it is only from my experiences as a special education teacher, my own disabilities real or Lyme induced, and research.

Yes, simular, I get the mucus running down the throat, no time to catch it at the nose..and sneezing alot along with the sore throat cuz of the mucus running down into the tummy....then tummy get upset..

I have found myself having no choice but to stop abx and go to catsclaw and other herbs while I catch up..

with the mucus thing..

about a week or little more..

I found effer C, more ACV and Zinc lounges to quicken up the ordeal so I can get back on the abx ASAP

Anything I post or respond to comes from a Lyme and Bart victim himself. I am NOT a doctor. I do my own research for ME...I may share my findings and will post them. They are for general talk and vent...If a group leader feels the info is worth saving somewhere, they are more than welcome to do with it as they like. Wlk=)

Dear rowergirl

Unfortunately, I feel your pain... Before diagnosing me with Lyme, I was treated again and again for repeated sinus infections and given dose after dose of antibiotics which put my body in a constant cycle of sick, not sick, then sick again.

I was allergy tested and eventually put on weekly allergy shots (which really didn't work either).

I eventually stopped taking both the antibiotics and the shots and just kept myself on a regime of decongestants and ALOT of water. It truly does help. I still get the sinus issues occasionally, and I avoid my allergy triggers (for me-mold, dust, cats, birds, etc). I would suggest getting tested by an allergist, but wouldn't recommend the shots. They're expensive and they hurt (plus I really didn't notice a difference).

Give the doxy a chance... It made me really sick for about a month, but it eventually levels out (some bad weeks, some good). You can always talk with your MD about trying a more broad spectrum antibiotic to help with the sinus problems as well; but try the decongestants and lots of water first.

Hope all this helps...

Holly

I don't think at this point I will be stopping the doxy cause I can feel it attacking the bacteria in places I haven't felt pain recently - today it is going at some place in my chest (lots of chest pain this morning).

While it hurts a lot at least I can tell it is working.

Unfortunately if this is related it means I have had this much longer than I ever realized.

While student teaching four years ago I would climb around on the playground with my students in order to release some of the stress and get myself moving a bit.

During the winter or periods of stress I would get these head colds that also wouldn't go away like now.

Makes me sad because I started my current job (3 years) and met my boyfriend sick.

I know about being misdiagnosed I have been told I have acid reflux or dry mouth issues due to sore throat issues that won't go away no matter how much I drink.

So I drink about a gallon a day already yet I am still dehydrated.

Having tacos with lots of cayenne (drain those sinuses), some chocolate, and good dose of cartoons to make me laugh.

Rowergirl, what kind of chestpain are you having?

Where is it and what does it feel like? Any shortness of breath? Nausea? Sweating?

Is it normal that lyme has an on and off progression over years? Year by year I have seemed to get sicker before this it all seemed unconnected.

Year one and two - sinus infections meds didn't work and fatigue.

Year three - sinus infections meds still didn't work, fatigue, delayed tension headaches or migranes the meds from the UVA clinic for this didn't work either, nausea, vertigo, brain fog, G/I problems

Year four - all of year three plus joint/muscle pain, sleeping 10 plus hours a day even on vacation with family in the Caribbean

Before student teaching I was a healthy energized individual.

I rarely got sick and had a ironclad stomach. I have never had surgeries or even a broken bone.

Its a known fact that most sinus infection will clear up on there own. I suffer from all all year around. Best thing to do is breath in warm steam and rinse your nose 3 times a day. Works wonders...

Hollfrrr, My chest pain goes from my bra line to just above my breast mainly on the left side through to my central back.

My sternum area is tender to light touch as if I have recently punched in my chest, but I don't remember a bar fight recently. LOL

Felt like the ribcage on my left side was caving in.

I had been standing do dishes and making lunch. The longest time I had stood so far today.

No shortness of breath, my nausea hasn't stopped since November 2010 so not sure it if it is related, no sweating.

My headache currently has gotten more severe since the chest pain started.

No left arm paralysis or tenderness - heart attack symptom.

This sounds like you could have swelling in the cartilage in the sternum and where everything attaches...I also had this pain that lasted a few years after a car accident and steroid shots in the low back which made EVERYTHING over the top painful for a very long time...

costo condroititis? Something like that...

With Him we "live" no matter the circumstances. At His feet peace of mind can be found. Peace that passes all understanding is my quest now and forever.

Numbers 6:24-26
"The LORD bless you and keep you;the LORD make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the LORD turn his face toward you and give you peace."

That sounds lovely!

I know that the pain has knocked out my plans for the day.

Going to try getting some more sleep then maybe I can get to that to do list.

This really scared me because I live alone in a tiny town an hour from the nearest hospital and three hours from relatives.

If something were to happen to me I wouldn't be missed most days until someone missed me at work.

While I have a boyfriend and we talk frequently he works on the weekends.

Sorry between the pain and this whirl wind week of being diagnosed to the increased symptoms from the medicine I guess it was inevitable that I would eventually have a moment like this.
