I am supposed to start my Flagyl on Monday. I am to take 500 mg. twice daily for 3 weeks on then 3 weeks off.

I've read so many horrible reviews of this medication that I am seriously thinking of NOT taking it!

Number one ... I am emetophobic (fear of vomiting). I know that sounds crazy but I am and will NOT take or do anything that could possibly make me sick to my stomach!!!

Please be HONEST with me about the side effects of Flagyl!!!

Kim

I'm an Advocate

kim, my bad experience with that was around 5 yrs. ago so i can't remember that far back.

i herxed horribly on 4-5th day!

happened while i was on a lyme board and i was seeing colors of light all over, felt sick, etc.

i was typing and NOT one word made sense; completely jibberish!

my friends started doing a search for me knowing my name was betty and i lived in iowa only.

so please share your full name, city/state, and phone no. with 2-3 TRUSTED friends here so if something were to happen to you while online, THEY could track you down or send the local police to do a check on you!!

1 woman formerly from iowa sent an email to another man around iowa city who i had met at a support group meeting. he knew my last name and city, so he CALLED POLICE to do a home check on me!

2 young policeman came to my door; i'd just gotten up from laying down for 1-3 hrs. after this happened.

they said my online friends were very concerned about me and this was the only way they knew to track me down.

i had NOT gotten back online and there must have been 100 messages trying to contact me about my welfare!

i know majority of folks DO have problems with this strong abx!

then some have absolutely NO PROBLEMS AT ALL! go figure.

so that's my experience with flagyl.

i called llmd's office next day giving detailed message what side effects i experienced; asked that he return my call that day...NONE CAME!

i called my regualr dr; STOP TAKING IMMEDIATELY!

sat. i emailed my llmd; gave side effects again; again NO EMAIL OR PHONE CALL BACK. i quit him then and there.

ended up going to s. minn...NO NOT MAYO CLINIC!

later saw my 1st llmd at local dairy queen and asked him point blank why he didn't return my phone call or email to him. HE KNEW NOTHING ABOUT IT!!

he had a nasty rn; so SHE was the problem. he was going back to the office to look at the file as to who DIDN'T give him the 2 messages/emails!!

never heard from him again; he got out of lyme business and moved on.

praying you will NOT have problems; look at your GLASS HALF FULL & BE POSITIVE. mind over matter. hugs/kisses

And on the other side of the spectrum, flagyl was my miracle drug. I'm counting the days until I can afford another LLMD appointment to get more.

(I have Lyme and bart)

A lot of people DO get sick on flagyl ... esp. if they pulse high doses or don't start slow, if you'll search at the top you'll get a lot of flagyl threads back...

I started slow and took daily for 4 months. Was beginning to feel like myself again, 75% improved, I'd say ... and can't afford to renew rx or I'd still be on it.

Won't know until you try it! How goes it so far?

That's awesome Zoe... It's nice to find a miracle drug...

I didn't to too well on flagyl, but I beleive it played a very important role in how much I have recovered...I am trying Tindamax tomorrow again, hopefully that will be a better match for me.

Like Zoe said, you won't know until you try it... Fingers crossed for ya..

Well, I "downed" my first pill tonight with a large dinner, so no problems so far! It's been several hours so I think if it was going to upset my tummy, it would have by now! Smile

I was seriously worried about this as well after I read all the horror stories. I took 5 weeks of Flagyl, 500mg a day, no problem at all! Smile

I was scared about the Mepron too, and I starred at the bottle for days. I just decided to buck up and take it yesterday. I'm good! Smile

Thank you, zoe! I actually took both pills (full dosage) today and so far, so good!

The only thing that might be a sign of a herx so far is sharp pains in the middle toe of my left foot.

Time will tell, my friends! Wink Thanks for the well wishes!
