Im for herbals and prefer the Buhner method of combinations rather than Cowden which Nutramedix is married to

as for Nutramedix theyre admittedly using Peruvian adn other south american herbs and refuse by email or phone to verify if they practice sustainable and conservation methods. a large portion profits goes to a Christian Ministry--Im not against this necessarily BUT Id want to know what that ministry is funding and then if I agree with it before I give them my money--but thats ME

as for the claims of the TOA stuff--youre conveniently quoting the company who has a bit of conflict of interest--I did a LOT of digging bfore I started Cats claw for Evan last year:

I and Buhner ( who doesnt sell anything like Cowden btw and is a very experienced herbalist) checked the literature about the TOA controversy--at least lets all have the accurate info with which to mak our own decisions

-there was a SINGLE series of in VITRO ( test tube) studies that used isolated Cat Claw constituents and only in SOME of these, the TOA had negative affects on the POA activity.

this is what happened

a blend of the POA's was extracted from the herb and placed along with human endothelial cells in a medium called RPMI-1640. This medium as all us lab bench jockeys know has fetal calf serum, glutamine, penicillin and streptomycin in it!!

this was allowed to stand for 7 days to produce supernatants ( liquid layer floating) which was filtered and stored for later. THIS adulterated liquid POA fraction was then used to test what TOAs did to the activity of POAs on cells.

a similarly adulterated prep of TOAs was done and tested.

NOTHING can be generally and legitimately be assumed from these tests except that TOAs MAY inhibit POA on specific cancer cell lines IN VITRO and after being prepped that way.

and the MAY is due to NO one being able to repeat the tests and a lot of conflicted conclusions within their own papers!

TWO papers were published and possibly backed by Nutramedix outlining the very same tests and by overlapping authors and these were then cited by 3 others in future publications. No one else did their own tests or in a way within the human body .

these very same 5 papers are quoted and requoted to "prove" that TOAs arent good

and theyre partially quoted above again by another poster

btw ONLY 2 of the TOAs in the plant were used and the AMOUNTS were far over whats in the plants themselves. When left in the whole plant -the many chemicals- act in synergy ( together)

matter of fact SCORES of other studies on the whole plant show that it stimulates the immune response and has NO adverse effects as described by those faulty papers

and the TOA parts HAVE been found to stimulate immune function especially phagocytosis!!

be aware that there are at least TWO and maybe even 3 types of Uncaria tormmentosa plants- the natives distinguish between them and they may therefore have different properties.

the plant harvested by natives and used for medicine for millenia?? the one with BOTH TOAs and POAs and they keep it whole

final intersting note thats IMPORTANT when deciding what to believe--and how to find possible conflicted interests--follow the MONEY

2 of the papers authors that say TOAs arent good, hold a PATENT on the process for removing the TOAs and have been linked to the company making the final product ( shares in Nutramedix)--what does THAT tell you??

when the TOAs impact the nervous system there are studies and experiences with humans showing thats its good--it HELPS the neurological functioning!!

Im a beleiver in knowing the WHOLE truth and th inside story and then letting others judge for themselves!!!

use whichever product that helps you--BUT know the truth about it!!

be well

F

I've been reading this forum for a while, although not posting, and I find this topic a little alarming. The title "Anyone Against Samento" seems argumentative and the company that makes this stuff has been mentioned numerous times. I didn't think advertising was allowed. Isn't there a less commercial way to discuss this product without forcing those with different opinions to sound negative>

Just wondering. Personally, I use ABX and various supplements.

Certainly Samento is a well known product name, but it is not necessary to mention any company name on the public forum. There should be "ZERO" advertising on this forum.

Anyone wishing to try Samento can look it up on the internet, or I'm sure Buckron would not mind them asking him for a company name through a PM.

Shortangle2, your point is a good one.

I don't see it as advertising, no different then saying the name of an ABX you are on and who makes it....

Come on everyone, lets PLEASE stop this childs play, enough has to be enough...

If it were not for Connie telling me about this I would never have tried it, and so far I do feel better....

Julie,

I am not against Samento in any way. I am also not against anyone buying it, if they believe it will help them.

I am against mentioning company names who sell it, and I do see a difference between Samento and mentioning antibiotics, although I can't recall anyone ever mentioning the manufacturer of an antibiotic?

The difference is that you need a prescription for antibiotics, so you can't go directly to the manufacturer to purchase it. If that were the case, I would be against mentioning the manufacturer on the public forums, but not the product.

Just like I'm not against mentioning Samento. I see nothing wrong with it at all. Buckron was right, it's a product name.

I agree to stop the fighting. This is getting ridiculous. We are all in this together and I like to believe that everyone has the same goal in mind.....to share what works for them and also, to share what doesn't and if it means telling someone a brand, I don't see the big deal. Many people have shared the names of probiotics and many people have shared the names of their conventional antibiotics. But, I don't see anyone getting upset about that.

Let's please stop picking on each other. My children do enough of that. I don't think it's helpful for any of us to go back and forth like this.

By the way, I know this is going to make some people mad (and that's not my intention at all...my intention is to be helpful), but I'm going back to a poster's original question about where to buy Samento....just google it. I saw where it was available at myherb.com for $32.00 for a one ounce bottle. A one ounce bottle lasts a long time. I'm only on my third bottle.

To all of you, you must know and understand what I'm about to say. I've said it before in other posts about samento, too. I don't think samento is the 'magic bullet'. There is no single cure for lyme. I took many other supplements and did other therapies, too. Samento, I believe, was very helpful in helping me to rid my body of Lyme and God knows what else. Plus, I was under the care of a physician. So, just bear this in mind on your own personal journey back to wellness.

I know this will add fuel to the fire(again, that's not my intention), but there are also other seemingly effective natural antibiotics out there, too. I have a friend who just tested positive for Lyme (was misdiagnosed as MS at first). She is taking Tekuna and she is herxing. I also used barberry as a natural antibiotic. There are more natural antibiotics out there, too. So, there are some choices out there. It's just that Samento was the most effective for me. Just be sure and let your doc know what you are doing .

Peace, please ,

Connie

Please do not take anything I say as medical advice. I am not a doctor.

Open your mind to the possibilities available to you.

An attitude of gratitude is good 'medicine,' too.
