I have been on 100 mg of doxy 2x daily for about the past month, as well as supplements to support detox, vitamins, etc about 54 pills in all per day. The first dose I took of the doxy I wasn't aware to take the supplements before hand and it resulted in a horrific 8 hour headache. So I've followed the plan to an extent, trying not to eat the forbidden foods, taking the supplements twice a day, yada yada yada. I stopped taking the doxy over the weekend and resumed with it yesterday but was out of detox support and it resulted in a horrific headache which sent me home from work, straight to bed. I just wonder how long have any of you been on the doxy treatment protocol and seen improvement in your symptoms? I've gotten to the point that I just don't know that it's helping and am considering alternative treatment.

Has anyone tried supplements intraveneously? Perhaps my IBS is so bad that I'm not absorbing any of the supplements and/or abx? I just don't know, it's frustrating to say the least. I go back to my doctor Friday and am going to voice my concerns. This just seems like a slllooowwwwww process. To top it off I have horrible PMS this week. Just horrible! Wish I had a tortoise shell to hide under here at my office!

the supps may be blocking some of the Doxy being absorbed--how many hrs apart do you take them?? and 54 pills sounds like a LOT too--some Drs and even some alternative health professionals dont realize interactions can occur!! even with natural stuff

if youre not absorbing supps chances are same with the doxy too--

the headaches CAN be a side effect of the drug--you may need to pulse ( a few days on then 2-3 days rest)

btw I hope you know to avoid sun like a vampire--the drug makes you very sensitive and sun poisoning is common

Ive done a few IV supps ( B's and C and minerals like Mag ) and I reacted badly--Bs come with preservatives--rash and severe nausea

the Cs went ok but the mag/minerals had me in the ER for HOURS due to irritating my heart and rhythm problems--never will do that again

its not the supps--maybe the timing of them and also you just may be not tolerating the doxy

you can try the liquid form called Doryx--sometimes changing the type helps

and the PMS may be making headaches worse and more likely too--unfortunately improvement can take weeks to months with cycles of ups and downs...depends on how long you have the Lyme, how long before the diagnosis and whats affected

those with knee pain seem to get better faster than brain stuff or heart stuff--it is a very slow long process, patience and stick to it ness will get you thru!!

its not like strep throat--culture, definite diagnosis, drugs and in 3 days feel fine and in 7 days cured. done

hang in and ask the Dr --the headaches MAy be a sign you cant do the drug or need a diff dose or diff type(liquid) or even need to change when you do the other pills ( and seriously 54?????)

Wow, I didn't realize you could get sun "poisoning!" I knew that it could cause you to burn easily. Thanks for the info, I'm headed to Florida next week for a week at Disney World and the beach! Any recommendations on SAFE sunblock that does not contain any petrolatum or parabens?

long sleeves, use clothes with fabric with natural sunblocking weaves ( google for them--worth the price) --shadysun.com and sunprotected.com are 2 pretyy good companies--

a good hat, stay in shade, use a beach umbrella--- as for sunblocks I go for the kids' hypoallergic types with zinc oxides and sometimes titanium dioxides NOT micronized tho--bad stuff about that--and I avoid paba and oxybenzones

I like Aubrey's line of products...

try a good health food store and ask or read some labels---

have fun!!~! and watch for heat too-- Lyme and its treatment often makes us unable to handle heat and before we know it--heat sickness--keep hydrated and cool

and maybe youll want to rethink the beach??? stay in and read a book or get a massage while your SO handles the kids?????

I just started my third month of Doxy and I have to say I don't think it's working. As for the headaches, they are awful, but I think they are from the Lyme, not from the Doxy. I got them bad before, but even worse after they insisted on my ridiculous spinal tap that resulted in absolutely nothing. They put me on Topamax twice a day and it took about two weeks to kick in of having headaches nearly every day but now I only get one maybe once a week and they are so much more mild. I would even venture to say I have only had maybe two true migraines since this medicine started to work and if you've ever had one, you know that's a godsend!

As for the sun. I am fair, but have never been one to burn easily. We used to joke that I just stay white, I don't turn colors, 'cause I don't tend to tan either. On the Doxy I burn in less than 10 minutes WITH 50 + sunscreen ON! I also get very tired and feel sick when I am in the sun too long so please please be careful. Listen to your body and take breaks inside whenever possible. Drink LOTS of water, not just in the sun, but always when on Doxy. I know all too well about the guilt associated with this disease and the anger at not getting to participate and miss out on your own life, but there may be days while you are there that you may need to consider staying behind to let the others frolick in the pool, beach or rides and you can enjoy the comforts of room service or maybe the spa??? There are indoor creature comforts to be had~

If there's anything else I can help you with as far as my experience on Doxy, just let me know!

Hi Savvy

some theories say that if after 2-3 months not enough sx are resolving or at least changing it may be time to try something else or add to it!! just a thought for you to discuss with your Dr

Plus co-infections that arent hit by Doxy may be at play as well...so even IF you are getting at the Lyme you cant tell as the many sx are from the co's

I didnt know about the sun poisoning either! I am like savvy...i am snow white all year round! I do occassionally burn. Thanks for the info. I am also on Doxy. I have only been on it a week though. So far i still feel horrible. My doctor told me after my intial results that my blood now had to be sent to the state lab? If that comes back possitive also all she said was that i would need "further" treatment??
