(don't forget to uncheck promotional boxes at the close of the petition form if you don't want to receive things from Care2).

PA Senate Lyme Bill #1199, Wtr/Spring 2010

Target:

Senator Don White, Chair of Banking&Insurance Committee reviewing Bill.

Sponsored by:

MontCoLyme, York County Lyme, LDA-SEPA, Lyme Society.

This petition asks for ACTION on PA Senate Lyme Bill #1199 (2010) regarding Lyme Disease.

We are asking the Senate Banking & Insurance committee to take action: consider this bill and hold a public hearing.

We have been personally affected or seen others affected, or are concerned about education and prevention of these debilitating diseases.

The current level of awareness, prevention, and medical diagnosis and treatment stance in PA w/these diseases is unacceptable.

For signers: you must be a PA Resident to sign this petition; we need your city, zip and email to include you - we don't want just a bunch of names with no way to validate them - this doesn't help us.

Your story helps tremendously.

And if you can, please ALSO email your story in more length of personal impact referring to your signature on this petition to:

dwhite@pasen.gov, and cc: your senator, and sgreenleaf@pasen.gov, the primary sponsor of the bill.

We the undersigned, are writing to you to ask you to take action on Senate Bill #1199, Lyme and Related Tick-Borne Disease Education, Prevention and Treatment Act.

This bill is very important to us because we have been personally affected by Lyme disease (see separate listing of our personal stories) - this bill is necessary to address current issues in the prevention, education, treatment and access to skilled care for these diseases.

We are specifically asking for consideration and a public hearing. This committee needs to know that this bill is very important to us, and necessary to the public of PA.

These diseases have been growing astronomically;

PA has been #1, 2 or 3 in the past in new cases, and the seriousness of their impact is growing as well.

The stories of those affected by these diseases, many of them children, are heartbreaking and cannot be ignored any longer

%u2013 did not copy correctly..betty note!

it is unconscionable that patients afflicted by these diseases are not getting access to treatment that restores functionality, and returns good health.

Science has long over-turned the dated notions that underpin the narrow, acute understanding of these diseases reflected in the practices of the majority of medical practitioners today.

Thank you for your representation of our concerns, and support of this important legislation. And our great thanks to Senator Greenleaf who has taken the lead in rectifying the current situation with this bill.

When is this bill set to go again? I found some info for Senate bill 210, is that the current one?

My father has connections on the democratic side and wants to push for this to pass (considering I believe most of the hold up is on that side of the aisle)

I was trying to look into it because I spoke to a Dr. here in PA who was telling me he has been trying to get this passes for something like 10 years.

The task force is directed to investigate and make recommendations to the Department regarding the prevention of Lyme disease in the Commonwealth.

The Department of Health is also directed to develop a program of public and professional education on Lyme disease in order to raise awareness of the long term effects of misdiagnoses and to develop public information and education on Lyme disease.

In addition, HB 272 further provides that a physician may prescribe long-term antibiotic therapy for late stage Lyme disease.

The bill requires all health care insurance policies must cover treatment for Lyme disease, including long term therapies, when prescribed by the treating physician.

just wanted to let all pennsylvanians know that i received a letter today from senator white who is the chair for banking and insurance.

this is a bit confusing but the lyme SB210 was recently voted favorable from the chair's committe. although there is a SB10 that was also brought up during the same meeting as the SB210 meeting. he gave me a website to go to, to see this meeting.

http://nova.pasenategop.com/hearings/2012/bankinginsurance/ 030712.wmv

this site goes over three bills.

he ends the letter as.....The bill is now in the Appropriations Committee, Chaired by Senator Jacob Corman.

they have acknowledge the importance of this bill. but more importantly it is an epedemic in the state of Pennsylvania.

neska,

please BOLD THE LAST 2 sentences you posted so all can see it's NOT FOR THAT 1 STATE ONLY; all can join in to support this cause.

absolutely; it's 1 state at a time.

congress's subchairs of health committee's are being bought off for $500,000+ by MEDICAL COMMUNITY/IDSA LOBBISTS so our lyme bills after 12 yrs. there will NEVER BE PLACED ON AGENDA to be discussed and VOTED ON!!

thanks for updates; remind me late today about emailing, etc. i've been gone today; worse out; BED TIME CALLING ME.

or send me a PM with the direct link to this so i can follow up or out of sight, out of mind happens.

hugs/prayers,

bettyg, iowa activist forever
