Hi!

I just wanted to share that I am getting a Tempurpedic mattress today! Finally! I have wanted one for years and I have such high hopes for the possiblity that I may wake tomorrow feeling much better than I did this morning. In fact, as I lay half asleep and half awake because of my pain last night, I just kept thinking...'this is the last night I will have to feel this way'...

I will keep you posted...Anyone else out there have one already and have anything good or bad to say?

It is an 'investment' to be kind about the cost but like I said, I am full of hope and that has made my load a little lighter today!

Please let me know how it goes! I've been contemplating making that same investment for a couple years now.

I got the tempurpedic mattress 3 years ago and I get HOT while sleeping on it. I do live in Florida , but we keep the air at 74 . We put it in the guest room (ridiculous waste of money). We got a regular mattress with european top which is soft and not hot. They may have improved them since we bought ours, but the mattress we got does not allow any air flow and traps heat under your body...so check into this before shelling out the money!

A good alternative is a natural latex bed. We have had ours for a while now and the stiffness is still there just not as severe. It sleeps much much better than a regular spring mattress!

I have heard also about the memory foam (tempurpedic) being hot. Also we researched about how they are made and they do give off an oder (gas).

Although,,,,, my parents have one - i have layed on it and it is great - don't know about all night...............but they really like it.

UPDATE

It's been almost a full week with my new mattress and we love it!

I'm so glad to report that both my fiance and I are seeing marked improvements.

He reports that he is waking up feeling more well rested and in considerably less pain and stiffness. He suffers with sciatica(?sp) problems as he broke his back while in the USMC and now does manual labor.

My stiffness, lower back pain and spine pain has also improved and I do feel more refreshed in the morning with little or no headache upon waking. These are big improvements for me...as it has been easier to actually get up in the morning.

I think of the improvement in terms of the 'hit by a truck' analogy. Instead of waking up feeling as if I have been struck by an 18 wheeler, I now feel like it was more like a box truck or a bus maybe...LOL

I will say that the very first night, I did notice the radiant heat that was retained in the mattress from our bodies and it was very warm. I can see why this wouldn't be ideal for everyone... but I actually seek warm moist heat for relief from muscle pain, so it works for me and my fiance didn't even notice it. I often get chills that are near impossible to shake and it is always easier for me to cool off than warm up.

Also, the material does give off an odor that is dissappating(?sp). It doesn't really bother either one of us.

As an added bonus...It is so much easier to make the bed in the morning because all we have to do is get up and pull the covers back up. Because niether one of us tosses and turns all night, all the corners stay neatly tucked as if they were freshly made.

Total thumbs up! I know it is a big expense but I believe it is proving to be well worth it. A good night's rest is the best thing you can do for your body, next to a nutrious diet, when you are fighting to be healthy.

Best wishes all! And I am still eager to hear what others think...

You definitely have to get one that's the right size for you and your partner, cuz it doesn't have a "wrapper" thingy around the outside of it, so you can't really cling to the edge of it, you'll fall off. My hubby and I share a tiny bed, and with this mattress, we don't both fit. He was pretty much falling off the edge, cuz I toss and turn and apparently kick, too! It's definitely extremely hot, and Ed can't sleep on it, cuz he puts out way too much heat, AND it sinks too much for his body. He needs to sleep on a rock-hard mattress! LOL

Me? I love it. It wraps around me, I'm very comfy, and I need that heat, so I think I'd wake miserable without it, but I think if I want to sleep with him again, it's gonna have to go into the spare bedroom when we move, as FloridaGirl said. But for now, I sleep on it, and Ed sleeps on the floor right beside me! LOL

The first day we had it, the smell was pretty bad, apparently, tho. I didn't notice it, but my cat peed right on it, within just a few minutes of it being in the house! Phew! Ick... Just lovely!!

Do your research. A lot of people are actually choosing sleep number beds, cuz they can be adjusted, and honestly, that's what I'm hoping we can look at. Since we both sleep in different conditions, and it would be best for the two of us to both be comfortable, I'd prefer something like that and both of us be able to sleep in the same bed. I think it'd be much more worth the investment.

I'm really glad it's working for you dharma, and I hope it continues!

Just because it's impossible doesn't mean it can't happen.

I'm not a doc, so anything I say is my opinion only. Nothing I say is meant as offense, I offer what I can as help.

I believe in educating myself on all my medical issues and being my own advocate, for no one else with do that on my behalf. I recommend we all do the same!

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Perhaps I truly am insane for expecting these docs to listen to me when I say the same things repeatedly to no avail? LOL. I am tired of seeking out new docs and getting the same result time and again...Forgive me if I seem bitter some days.

Hi I have a posturpeadic mattress which is pretty much the same thing. Never noticed an odor with it, but it does get hot!!!

Also as I have mobility problems it is hard to move on and seems to grab at me when I do try. My husband wanted a sleigh bed and it is hard for me to get on to as I can't slide on to it. I need to try a silky pillow top cover I guess, it is comfortable though, especially when I had to stay on my back when I broke my arm.

I think I owuld have preferred a number bed though!!

I tried the Sleep by number system and didn't care for it. It works by adjusting air pressure in individual bladders and I found that, by morning, it had lost a significant amount of air and was no longer comfortable...maybe I just had a leak but then you have to have someone come rrepair it and so on...

I guess there's the right thing for each of us if we keep searching hard enough. Too bad everything costs like a million dollars before you buy it and is only worth $100 as soon as you get out of the store with it! LOL

Thanks for all the input!

Good info here.... Hubby & I have been looking into both of these options and are still undecided.

The temperpedic kind,.. I thought I had read about some toxicity in those because of the chemicals and adhesives used to make them... Does anybody know anything about that? I don't remember where I read that, and guess I need to search & research again. But, that really concerned me.

The sleep number option has really appealed to, and we did get to try them in a hotel once, plus have a friend who swears by hers, BUT I have had the concern about the leaks. We saw one on {rhymes with mag's jist LOL) and it was going cheap because of that very reason, a leak.

I'm on the fence.... and yes, everything costs too much!

(((HUGS))) to all,.. this is a good thread topic!! Keep the info coming, please!
