Hi all,

My husband, my soon to be 7 year old daughter, and myself all have lyme disease, so as I'm sure you know, our house is quite chaotic sometimes. Especially getting ready in the morning.

My daughter absolutely hates to brush or comb her hair and doesn't like to have it put up in a ponytail or anything else. And I don't have the energy to mess with it or fight about it anymore.

We battle with this every morning. She has very frizzy, not curly, but not straight hair that looks like she just rolled out of bed so we have to do something to it.

I had perms as a child because I have the same hair and it was hard to deal with, so I got a perm and all I had to do was put mousse in it in the morning, and it was done!

I am thinking about doing this with her hair so we can end the morning battles, but am unsure of any negative effects from the perm chemicals.

Any thoughts or suggestions on this? Thanks in advance Smile

I personally would not perm a childs hair at that age. I know I had them as a child but I imagine it cant be very healthy. I would buy a bottle of detangler and let her have at it herself.

Yeah, I am worried about the chemicals in the perm. I had perms as a child, but I'm still not sure about it. We have detangler and all, but I think that her head hurts a lot from the lyme, so she doesn't like to do anything to her hair. Even when I brush it out, she hates to have it up or anything done to it. I am just over it and ready to cut it all off lol.

i would ask a professional hairdresser and also maybe there is a product in the healthfood store that would get the frizz out with out harmful chemicals..

If the frizzy hair is giving her low self esteem then I would try help her in some way.. If she doesn't care about it then no worries..

I am a not a young girl but I get my hair dyed every month and well I am still alive.. So far anyway! LOL..

I am trying to remember when i was a kid ah yes I was a tomboy at the time and rarely even brushed my hair, but it was long and straight very easy to deal with.. LOL Smile

are ANY of you ALLERGIC to chemical smells now? if YES, don't do it; smell lasts forever and will make you sick to your stomach.

my sister used to do my perms/hair colors before i knew for 30+ yrs. i had chronic lyme; made me sick each time. just my personal experience on CHEMICAL INTOLERANCES.

best wishes

Sometimes a water softener will help with the frizzies if its the hard water doing it. I have terribly frizzy hair.

I got my hair done recently. I told the gal that I wanted smooth hair like the Asian women with the shine too.

She put a little mouse in my hair when it was damp. Combed it through and then used the blow dryer until almost dry. She then used a hot flat iron on my hair and it turned out SO pretty and shiny and not a single frizz.

I can go every other day washing my hair now and my hair stays shiny and without frizz until I wash it again.

It does take a few minutes to use the hot iron but you can actually just use the iron on the frizzy areas and it goes quickly.

Just a thought..It's been my answer to prayer.

I agree with Tara about the washing every other day thing.

It may seem odd to people without frizzy hair but that gives time for the natural oils in her hair to work and spread.

She can still shower every day but if you put her hair in a shower cap that should help.

I don't know her level of frizziness but there are several deep, leave in conditioners that might help too.

I use a leave in conditioner by Garnier and I don't have to worry about frizz! It is my experience that Omega 3s (like in fish oil or flax) help hair and skin moisture too. Best wishes!

There are products that are not toxic that will help to smooth hair. Aveda has some products and there is also the Moroccan Oil for starters, I'm sure there are more as well. I wouldn't perm or color hair on a person with lyme, no sense in putting more chemicals on/in a body that is already struggling.

Hey Learning.. It's SO good to see you posting again. I LOVE the new pic! Better make sure all the mans up in here know you are married! hehe

Little girls will start caring about their hair as they get older....it just takes some experimenting...but here in Waco TX the water absolutely changed my hair for the worse. My hair would get frizzy when the humidity is high but here it was frizzy and I MEAN FRIZZY on every level until I started using a little mouse with control and the flat iron.

I don't use the flat iron for very long..Literally seconds and then moving it down the strands...I hope you find something to work with the little gal...I know kids hate to stand still too..

I have 3 boys and have to force them to bathe period. 3, 5, and 9 years old and all they want to do is play.

*HUGS* to everyone.
