Why wear a ribbon?

"I wear this ribbon because someone i know has Lyme disease." (lullabyrose)

MDJunction to me

"When I first came to MDJ, I was in a very dark place, and feeling quite alone, I don't know how I found this site, but I have been very grateful ever since, all of you have offered insight to the illness of Bipolar and the other things going on with me, being here has allowed me to find friends, and to feel safe in discussing things that I would never have shared before.

I believe it has also offered me the chance to reach out and help others. A simple Thank you, is all that I have to offer, to this site and to the wonderful people here.

Well, I've always been told I have a positive attitude by those who know me best. (Please, I do not mean to sound like I am tooting my own horn). However, when the docs told me I just needed a psychiatrist, I was thrown for a loop.

During my sick times I read a lot of verses from the Bible. That was helpful for me....a lot of praying.

Well, I ran across this little Maori proverb....whoever that is..not from THE BIBLE, but nonetheless, it is motivational:

Turn your face to the sun and the shadows will fall behind you.-----Maori proverb.

Well, I'd like to change one word in that little saying:

Turn your face to the SON and the shadows will fall behind you.------Connie proverb....ha,ha.....

Peace,

Connie

Please do not take anything I say as medical advice. I am not a doctor.

Open your mind to the possibilities available to you.

An attitude of gratitude is good 'medicine,' too.

Attitude. Yes, it is very important. And it's not always easy. I've had some pretty dark days. I'm sure everyone here knows exactly what I'm talking about.

I found a website about a year or more ago that was like a course in positive thinking. It involved writing down all the things you're grateful for daily and meditating on the sound 'ah oom'. It felt stupid writing down the positive things because at first they seemed so trivial. Things like clean sheets, or the sun streaming in the window, having the strength to write (I was in bed a lot, so it was pretty limited.) But it was a big help. The chanting meditation was even more powerful. Maybe it was just the breathing that helped but whatever it was the difference before and after was incredible.

Whatever it takes to stay positive!

I agree Bonski! I am grateful every single day for even the littlest things.....like 'volunteer' flowers in my garden. I count even those as a blessing. And yes, I had many,,many 'dark days,' even dark years, but for the most part, me and my husband were the only ones who knew how sick I really was. I know that's how many of us are.....we put our best foot forward and smile through the pain.

Well, here's a Bible verse that helped get through some tough times:

Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.

James 1:2-3

Also,

You understand, O Lord; remember me and care for me.

Jeremiah 15:15

Oh my, there are so many more Bible promises that gave me hope. I always trusted and believed that I would be healed.

Here's a verse that is perfect for our support group

Encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.

1 Thessalonians 5:11

Praying was yet another 'tool' that I used to find my way out of the 'maze of Lyme.'

Please do not take anything I say as medical advice. I am not a doctor.

Open your mind to the possibilities available to you.

An attitude of gratitude is good 'medicine,' too.

I like that first one from James it reminds me of this by Carl Jung..

It was only after the illness that I understood how important it is to affirm one's destiny. In this way we forge an ego that does not break down when incomprehensible things happen, an ego that endures the truth, that is capable of coping with the world and with fate. Then to experience defeat is also to experience victory.

Prayer helped me a lot too. I'm not a church going person but I know my prayers were heard more than once. I don't think it matters who are, anyone can pray and be heard.

In light of our starting a new prayer/devotional thread, I thought I'd check on this old thread that I started several months ago.

Thank you for your comments and yes, our prayers are heard....every one of them. We have to be patient. The Lord knows everything that we need. The timing is in the Lord's hands.

Please do not take anything I say as medical advice. I am not a doctor.

Open your mind to the possibilities available to you.

I am so thrilled to see these threads... they hold great value for me.

I am a person of profound faith, and my belief and trust in the Lord has seen me through everything I have endured throughout my life.

It brings me such joy to know that we can now share in that together here.

I, too, have heavily relied on God's Word to see me through many difficult trials. His promises and His love have always carried me through. One of my favorite poems has always been "Footprints in the Sand".

It has seemed that no matter my struggles, I could always turn to the Bible, and find countless verses that seemed as though they had been written just for me. I'm sure many have felt that way.

I have many favorites also, but one I thought I would share that has always reminded me to just trust in Him to lead the way, even when I cannot see......

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord " plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Jeremiah 29:11
