firemen were just here; pie completely on fire!

THIS IS FOR REAL; MY PERSONAL STORY HAPPENING AROUND 430 PM TODAY, CHRISTMAS EVE...one i'll never forget!

FIREMEN were just here!

i was baking a peach pie from grocery store at 400; i smelled something burning...THE ENTIRE PIE WAS ON FIRE! i turned off the heat but it was still in full blaze, so i called the fire dept. and they sent 3 goodlooking men here.

you had to see it to believe the flames coming out of the entire pie! colorful.

one carried it out of oven to snowcovered grass; still on fire; i missed that as they asked me to open windows & doors on the opposite side of the house. my things are still open as i speak to you.

they brought in their big blower fan for 5 minutes to suck out more SMOKE! didn't take long for our small home to fill up with that so guy in charge went back and closed our 2 bedroom doors.

it had only baked 20 out of 60 minutes on 400. they said sometimes the stoves just get too hot, and there was nothing cardboard in there to start it. i put it on a pizza pan in case the pie would go over the oven pie it comes in!

i was going to bake a pizza after the pie...both bought at grocery store earlier this afternoon. so much for that idea!~

so i gave all 3 goodlooking guys a big hug, and 3 honeycrisp apples to snack on later with our heartfelt gratitude for coming to put our my fire!

talk about excitement; 1st time in 35 years of marriage i've had anything burn like that!

WE WERE LUCKY! my husband didn't smell it at all, but since my nose is SUPER SENSITIVE TO CHEMICAL SMELLS...i was right on the scene! we could have lost our home or lives.

that's what i call a big uffda; norwegian expression for OH MY GOODNESS!

hope you all have less excitement tonight and celebrating your christmas with family and friends tomorrow and this weekend WEATHER providing.

can't believe how ALL the midwest states have been hit with all this bad weather.

it was raining, then freezing ice last night, but temps rose to 33 so ice melted; now around 7 pm started snowing and 1" on ground. we're to get from 2" - 18" in NW IOWA.

earlier today i ordered 2 take out turkey/ham meals from the other church who prepares around 750 meals for the needy and anyone who wants to eat. we always pay for our meals since we can afford to. i've always gone and gotten them myself. i didn't know they deliver ... will try that for 1st time.

here's to a healthier and happier new year for us all.

"Flammable Pie Syndrome: Lurking Nightmare in Your Own Oven"

I was going to wait to announce the release of my documentary, but clearly it is not a moment too soon to let the world know about this unsung scourge of holiday kitchens everywhere.
