Hi,

I found a tiny red mark back in January of 2008, and this was misdiagnosed as a ringworm. On March 31st, I was finally diagnosed as having Lyme Disease after major headaches, arthritis like symptoms of the knees, and the rash that continued to get larger. I never saw the tick, but at my last appointment (yesterday-April 28th) they did a biopsy of my growing bullseye rash. Does anyone know why they would do a biopsy? They have also given me not only the Doxycycline that I have been taking for a month, but they added Amoxicillin, Prednisone, and naprosyn. What do you all know about these drugs? I also had to have an ecogram done and will go back this thursday for an EKG. This stuff has been tough on me. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

The better question is why did they prescribe Prednisone?

The RA doctor put me on prednisone. This was the proverbial straw that broke my health. My health crashed. I nearly died! Thankfully a LLMD diagnosed my Lyme and put me on a more appropriate treatment plan. Prednisone lowers your immune system. As such it is a contrary drug for us lyme patients.

This is a fabulous site with many discussion threads regarding treatments. So I would fasten your seat belt and expect some great posts in answer your questions. The one commonality I believe you will hear from these subsequent posts is "get off the Prednisone."

I wish you a speedy recovery.

Thanks so much. I haven't told the doctor this but a local pharmacist I went to, told me that he wouldn't take the Prednisone. He gave me an answer similar to your's. He told me that it was probably given for the arthritis, but so was the Naprosyn. He told me not to take the prednisone. So, I think that I'll just throw it away. I don't think that these doctors in Mississippi know very much about this Lyme Disease. I feel like a guinney pig...Much Thanks.

I would let your doctor know what you are doing and how you feel about what he has given you.

I agree with not doing any steroids ( Prednisone) and be very careful of the Naprosyn too-- your pain may be able to be helped by lesser things. Of course keep your Dr informed and Id ask him about how well experienced he is with Lyme

in the end its YOUR body but telling all medical professionals what youre doing is always best

you can try to find a Lyme knowledgeable Dr by going to www.lymediseaseassociation.org and look at "physician referrals"

there is a Lyme Disease support group in Miss. here is the contact info--email or phone and they can help you easily find a very experienced Dr!!

Linda K Beasley

601-885-2064

email-lkbeasley@bellsouth.net

she is in Jackson but they help the entire state!!

Im unsure why the biopsy and I doubt they tested for tick borne diseases--often with a "rash" theyre unsure of theyll rule out common things like fungal or bacterial skin infections, or even Tb!!

make sure you get a copy of the biopsy results and ask the office where the sapmple was sent--IF they still have it maybe it can be sent to a Lyme friendlier lab and retested!! especially for coinfections

the Doxy and Amoxil are pretty standard drugs for first choice but a good LLMD can tell if you need others. Be careful with sunshine, even thru windows--the Doxy will cause severe reactions!! ( and of course no tanning beds either)

also be careful they dont take you off the meds too soon.

if you still need help finding an experienced with Lyme Dr let us know!!

good luck ( and its great you were diagnosed so soon after the rash--many of us here werent--you have a great chance of being cured)

as for the EKG and echocardiagram--standard to make sure the infection isnt affecting your heart!! no worried and both are easy no pain tests!! ( the echo is an ultrasound)

be well feel better

Finette

Thanks so much for the info. will try to contact the support group tomorrow. Yeah, I didn't quite understand the reasoning behind the biopsy. Thanks for all your help.

When I got sick I was on Doxy, IV Rosephin, Doxy again. I was tasking Vicodin (same as dr. House on TV). I got very nausease but got something for that too. I was in so much pain and could barely move, some nights I had to crawl to get to the bathroom. I remember that I felt like giving up and was on my way to the ER. many times. In the beginning I was on Naproxen but it did nothing, after I while I switched over to Mobix and almost immeadetly my pain started to decrease. I have at several occasion tried to get of but have not fully managed.I was so sleepdepraved and was also on Ambien.

I had never really taken any drugs in the past, I am all for natural methods like herbs, tai chi and chi gong, acupuncture, massage etc. Both my kids were born naturally and I would do the same again over and over.

In addition to traditional medicine I also followed dr. Burrascanos guide lines almost religiously. Are you familiar with those?

So to conclude, for me I am so grateful this combo was available for me. If I would not have been as proactive as I was I do not know where I would be today.

I wish you all luck and a fast recovery
