At the very begininng of January 2006 (my Junior year of college) I started to feel ill. I had body aches and felt incredibly fatigued. I started taking naps between classes and catching viruses all the time. I also have had an undiagnosed GI disorder (doctors can't figure that one out either) that flared up multiple times a week. Other symptoms started soon after including; muscle and joint pain (and numbness), cognitive deficits,light/food/smell sensitivities, memory problems, concentration difficulties, weight fluctuations, mood swings, vision problems, etc. . . (the list is too long to type here). I went to doctor after doctor seeking a diagnosis for all of my problems. I saw family practicioners, gastroenterologists, rheumatologists, and finally an infectious disease specialist. The rheumatologist found the Lyme disease after I came into the office in incredible pain with a list of around 75 symptoms that I experienced on a regular basis. I had x-rays, MRI's, CT scans, blood tests, and a lumbar puncture. Lyme disease was the diagnosis and I started a month round of doxycycline. Because of my neurological involvement the IDS decided to place me on a two week course of IV rocephin. At the end of the two weeks I was more than ready to get rid of the PICC line in my arm, and was convinced that my condition had improved. A few days later I am sure that the bacteria has, in fact, NOT left my body! I guess I shouldn't expect a disease I've had for two years to be erradicated in six weeks. I wish there was a real cure for all of us! I will continue to fight the fight!

Hello and Welcome!

Do you think you contracted the lyme in North Carolina? There are still so many people that think it's only an "up north" disease. At least you did'nt get a crappy CFS diagnosis and your Dr's kept looking for the problem. This disease is difficult to get rid of and you might be on antibiotics for a while. My advice is to continue to educate yourself and listen to your body if you still feel sick you still need treatment. Also there are lots of alternative treatments out there that are great, that is the route I am taking to treat my 20 year old lyme.

Good luck and take care, Denise
