I would like to know how many of you got Lyme while on the job? I did. I work for Montgomery County Department of Environmental protection where I am an engineer. I am/was out in wooded areas inspecting dams and supervising reconstruction projects daily. When my supervisor put in a job injury claim (two others had also contracted Lyme) it was denied. I took them to court and won. Sounds great-right. Well, the County is knowlingly not following the judgement where they "pay all related medical bills and medical treatment from the date of injury forward" My medical insurance won't pay because they know it is a successful workers comp case and Montgomery County is liable. I sit at home disabled due to the fact that I am getting no treatment. Is anyone else in this situation? I hope not. I may need everyone's support. Ike Leggett has a campaign now saying how much the county is doing for their residents in terms of Lyme literacy while turning his back on his own employees after they work deligently in the fields and get the disease. Typical politician. REally, I may ask for you guys to e-mail him on my behalf. How many would do it?

I have also gotten bit while working. I was working at a golf course in central Minnesota when I was working on the maintenance crew for the summer, and I was bitten in my inner left thigh. We had been exposed to ticks and not even knowing the dangers of this. We were clearing trees and brush between two holes at the golf course the whole summer. I was bitten on Aug 16, 1995. I have been pursuing this since then. I couldn't get anyone to diagnose me over all these years. I had the definite bulls-eye rash, documented very well in my records by the first Dr. had seen me in the hospital. Unfortunatley, I had improper treatment. He did not know what bit me. He wrote in my med. records insect bite not known. I had to have it lanced 3 times for how badly it was infected to let it drain the infection. It is documented that it had spread about a foot the next day he saw me. Sounds like the EM rash right? Well, over the years I couldn't get Dr.'s to believe me, with this documented, and all the symptoms that I was having, was classic for Lyme Disease. The Dr. also goofed by treating me with Keflex, which does not prevent Lyme Disease from manifesting. I was doomed. You said you won your case? I am just now starting to pursue a case, cause it took me 12 years to prove that I was CDC positive through Igenex Labs in California. I was one of the unlucky ones that I had taken over 15 Elisa and Western Blots over the past years and negative or non-react on every one of them, until Igenex found it in my blood. I have two lawyers that say I have a definite case for the damages I have suffered. I am disabled, I have a Kidney disease where I am passing blood clots up to 50 cent piece size, Hashimotis (an autoimmune disease) of the thyroid, heart problems, joint and central nervous system damage, bulged discs in my back, lyme in my spine and neck, and I could go on. How did you win your case? I could use all the help I can get and it could even help me win my case also. My Dr. just two days ago agreed to look over my med records, for this case. He never takes work comp cases, cause it is a lot of work and the insurance companies are bastards is what my Dr. said, when it comes to work comp cases. I know I deserve to win, it has ruined my life. I was a Professional Golfer apprenticing through the PGA of America to become a Head Pro and Teaching Pro. So much for my career now. Look what I have invested and what I have lost because of Lyme Disease. I know I am not alone, especially hearing that it happened to you also. Did the insurance company settle with you? Can you tell me more about your case? Like I said the more ammo I can go in with my case the better chance I have to win mine also. Thank you so much, Luvdtoteeup. Hope you are doing better now. Hope to be able to talk to you about what happened to you and your work comp case.

Yes, I won my case and have now won additional treatment, pay for being out of work and other. Its no picnic but in the end I hope it will work out for me because I have become almost totally disabled. Since I have won two judgements my company will no longer take me to court. They are resigned. My case is classic and two others where I work have gotten Lyme. This is going to be a big thing legally. Check your state rules on filing. My company did not tell me but in this state you only have one year from the date of accident for formally file. Its a tough road because they will make you out to be a liar and a cheat. It will take forever but if you pursue you will win and, as I said, they will not take me back to court again after losing twice. I start IV antibiotics tomorrow so I'm hopeful that I will improve.

I do know how you can increase your chances for winning if you ever decide to go down that road. Let me know.

I am looking to start a business that I can do from home but for now I am on temporary total disability so they have to pay me and they will have to settle. We could chat in a room and I could give you some tips. Right now you need to check to see if you can still formally file in your state. There are usually statutes of limitations on time. Yes the docs do a lot more work but, if you win, their fees will be covered. The docs need to know what to say.
