Hi All - My husband had lyme disease with Babs. We have been told to reduce sugar in his diet, but that's about it. What have you been told is the best diet for Lyme? Any help would be great!!

ok luvbug your diet should not have any of the folowing.

NO wheat, carbs starches sugar dairy or gluton products. You can eat fish chicken and turkey with any type of greens you choose. Some people have added some fruits to their diet but I have stayed away from them since they due have sugar in them.

Hi and Welcome

The standard diet is gluten free or wheat free, dairy free except yogurt, and sugar free. sugar substittute is not acceptable either. Lots of water and detox, detox, detox.....

Wait, what!? My doctor said NOTHING about food. Just to take the meds. I'm supposed to be watching what I eat too?! Why?

Lyme loves sugar and all things that break down to sugar. Yeast also loves it and thats a problem when your on ABX (antibiotics)

Ooops! I'm on high-powered abx and have a tsp. sugar with coffee. I also like jelly on toast. Sounds like I'm encouraging these critters. I didn't know all this.

What is the idea behind omitting starch, sugar, potatoes, dairy? Is it possible to starve these critters to death?

yes all these things break down to sugars. We dont want to be feeding them. Also they cause inflamation in the body so reducing them makes us feel better

Thank you everyone for this great diet information... it sounds like I have a lot of work to do to change our eating habits! I have been reading labels and was surprised to see that skim milk even has sugar in it!

After a four year battle with Chronic Lyme disease I am now totally free of Lyme. I credit half of my recovery to my diet changes. I gave up sugar, caffeine, and alcohol. Those three are absolute. Later I found I had to give up pasta, most starchy foods, soda, and limit the intake of fruit juice. I found, in my own body, that I was protein deprived. Being a vegetarian made that worse, so I had to go back to eating meat. My diet basically became meat and vegetables. I also found a need to focus on organic food. As a former farmer I know that massive amounts of toxic chemicals and antibiotics are put in non-organic foods. This causes your body to struggle to eliminate toxic material. Most western doctors have zero training in diet (seems hard to believe but true). I found Seva to be an effective, non-toxic alternative to sugar. I have a friend who is addicted to coffee and has Lyme. It's sad to watch her health decline because she cannot give up coffee.
