I had an appointment with my LLMD yesterday, which also turned out to be a good conversation....

We ended the appointment by talking about the new movie, "Under Our Skin" and about the recent developments in Connecticut with the IDSA.

My Doc was very talkative and told me he recently attended a forum in Virginia where he was speaking in a point/counterpoint type thing with an infectious disease specialist from the University of Virginia. My doc told me..."He did not give a very good talk and did not present himself well at all. When I had my chance to speak...well, let's say I was very well received with my talk. He just...he was not good. I did very well".

Now my guess is that is some form or medical "trash talk". Even though he spoke softly, based on the look on his face, I was waiting for him to lift both hands up in the air and "raise the roof"!

Trash talking docs...you've got to love it....

Tom

I guess it's gonna take a bunch of Infectious Disease Docs to get Lyme Disease to figure it out. (Not that I'm wishing that on them... sometimes that's just how it works).

Glad your doc knows his stuff!!!!

Clayton,

Isn't it terrible when you can see a disaster coming, but cannot do anything to stop it?

That is how I feel about doctors who "poo-poo" Lyme disease and related illnesses. You said it and many of us see it coming...someday one of their family members, or someone else they love (possibly themselves)are going to get this...and their thinking will change. It may take a while, but it will start with a trickle and then become a flood.

The odds are that it will follow the disease incidence itself. It will start with those doctors who are in the most endemic states, and move from there.

Like you, I don't wish it on anyone, period. But, I know it's going to happen, and it pains me to stand here and watch it. That is why I work so hard for the change to happen now.

It truly is the thing that movies are made of...the hero sees it coming, but the antagonist refuses to believe it can have such an impact...until it's too late.

Tom

You are so right! We'll just keep fighting -- and when they are where we are or they know what we know - we will have been fighting for them this whole time, too!

Yes, it's bound to happen. Many more people will be infected before big changes happen. It is so sad. This is a disease you wouldn't wish on your worst enemy. I suppose that's why it was studied for biological warfare.

Being a newbie I am reading alot right now trying to soak in as much as I can. I feel thats the only way to combat this silent monster disease.

But I have to agree with all of you. It will take them to get this or a family member before they get on the band wagon and stop treating ppl like its all in their heads. Thats how I felt when I had my aneurysm. My doctor kept telling me I was being paranoid for months then when my MRI showed an aneurysm he apologized. Since then he has listened to many patients with headaches and not dismissed them and sent them right on to have MRI's. Sometimes it just takes a rude awakening for them to sit up and listen.

This is one disease and Lymes disease I dont wish on anyone.

Both to me I am calling silent diseases cause they are quiet when they appear and without warnings sometimes. The warnings are so similar to other things is what I mean. They mimick other minor things doctors dismiss .

Anyway sorry didnt mean to be long and drawn out. Just mainly wanted to say I so agree with what yall said.
