Anyone out there with lymes disease have this problem. I always have fluid in my legs, knees, feet, and ankles. I also get really large inflamed muscles all over and it moves to different muscle group.

I don't know about the fluid retention but you can try baths with epsom salts. It's supposed to help draw water out through the skin. As far as the hard inflamed muscles have you looked into Myofascial Pain Syndrome (MPS)? It can cause hard knots to form in the fascia muscles. Hope that helps.

Hi Jill, Do you have any heart problems like palpatations, heart pounding or skipped beats? I ask because swollen ankles and feet can be a sign of congestive heart failure. My lyme decided to attack my heart and I have dialated cardiomyopathy which can lead to CHF. Also do you have shortness of breath after exersion like climbing stairs or feel like you have to sleep propped up to breath? If you have any of these sx please consult a cardioligist.

Good luck, Denise

Denise

Your post is a bit old, but I just saw it and thought I'd respond. My legs are always full of fluid and it's definitly worst in my knees.

Everything leaves marks in my legs - when I wake up I have marks from the sheets in my legs that last for hours. My knees are generally twice their normal size.

So far I haven't found anything that will get rid of it.

I may try the Epsom Salt thing. If you have any suggestions, let me know!

Yes, my hands, ankles, feet and knees used to swell terribly. They would swell to the point I could not bend the joint. Then there was the extra special day the fluid in my right knee broke through the synovial membrane and created a Bakers Cyst. It measured, via emergency room ultra sound, 15 centimeters X 3 cm X 2 CM. It hurt like hell. The ER docs where jerks. They stated there is no such thing as Lyme. Go home and live with the pain. Thank God I have an exceptional LLMD. She explained the Cyst - Lyme connection and treated it. I walked out of her office almost pain free. It still took a few weeks to totally heal. However, My recovery is going very well. Severe water retention and joint swelling symptoms are now vague memories. There is occasional slight swelling, due to herxing, of the hands. But it goes away quickly.

Also all Lyme heart symptoms are gone. I was treated with ABX and lots of natural supplements, sauna, meditation, tea, chiropractic, Homeopathic meds. Once this round of ABX are complete I will switch to 30 days of Sliver. Massage also worked extremely well to move the lymph system to reduce the swelling. Recently, I started to take "Arnica Montana", Homeopathic Med. It worked great to reduce the swelling. I now have knuckles on my hand again. My LLMD was really happy. I think the ABX phase of treatment is almost complete.

Take heart, the symptoms we all share are real. They hurt. But they go away, or at least can be greatly mitigated as we become well. The issue is how to treat lymes successfully.

I was searching fascia and Lyme and found your post. Yes, my fascia, which is actually the whitish sheath over the muscles, is inflammed. My massage therapist explained that the great pain I feel in my calf muscles and my quadriceps, is because the fascia over those muscles is adhering, she said. The fascia sheath is supposed to slide over the muscles, not stick. I, too, have visible muscle twitches and jumps and edema at my knees and sometimes both inner and outer ankle bones, but presently after a hot bath and starting another treatment last night, these joints are fine.

Rifampin is what ended the numbness and tingling in my feet and lower legs. It is an antimalarial drug but is apparently effective for many things. It could be effective for a tick co-infection called Bartonella. I took Rifampin twice a day for 30 days twice, but my feet were getting "buzzy" again, and one Rifampin yesterday backed that up.
