I have read in some information booklets about Lyme affecting people's eyesight. My doctor said it's possible, but he's never seen it happen. Anyway, I'm asking because 4 years ago, I lost my vision pretty quickly. My vision went from 20/30 to 20/200 within 4 months. Now I'm legally blind and my retinal specialists are completely confused and can't find a cause or name for what I've got. Well, in January, I was just diagnosed with Lyme after basically a lifetime of horrible health. I'm just wondering if my vision loss could have been caused by the Lyme. If anyone has any information on this, PLEASE let me know.

I have heard about Lyme attacking the eyes --- sorry you've had such terrible problems!

I was one of those unlucky enough for the lyme to attack my vision.

Thankfully, my LLMD caught the symptoms and sent me to a Lyme Literate MD, PHd Neuro Opthalmologist. She diagnosed cupping on my optic nerve, cataracts, and double vision from my eyes inability to track an object together. I was losing my vision. While the cupping and cataracts will not get better, the ongoing damage to my optic nerve and cataracts were arrested. The double vision was cured through eye exercises. Bottom-line I can read again with out headaches or fatigue.

I wish you well.

I know mine has caused vision problems. I would always have troubles with eye pain which my ophthalmologist always just said was allergies. Later when I saw another one in the same office she found my eyes were severely swollen and corneas were covered in sores like hundreds of ruptured blisters. No wonder my eyes would always hurt as well as I would get infections in my eyes. I started having similar pain one year and ended up with impetigo in one eye. I have to use eye drops every couple hours but have been lucky enough that for almost a year I was able to go with out glasses again with some of the sores clearing up. The ophthalmologist who found it thought it was immune related and sent me to a pediatric rheumatologist (I was 11 when they found it) all he was able to find then was weakened immune system and arthritis symptoms. So I do know it can affect the eyes.

Hello all, I had a retinal vessel infart called a cottonwool spot and I also have new floaters in both eyes. My opthomologist said it can be from lyme. The cottonwool spot in my field of vision has not gone away. I am concerned that this may lead to more problems. I have an appt. with him Thursday. I will ask him what he thinks about your situation.

How embarrassing, I wrote infart instead of infarct, isn't mispelling words part of Lyme? LOL Denise

I've never heard of a cottonwool spot. Basically, when I look directly at something, it is completely gone. I have to look above it, so I can see it in my periphery. I don't plan to see my retinal specialists until June, so let me know what your doctor says. With my luk, my Retinal specialist probably won't have any clue about Lyme and Blindness. Is it wrong to call a DRs office before an appointment becuse you want the doctor to have information for you by the time your appointment comes? It's just tough to see him because his office is 6 hours away from where I live.
