Hello, I would like to know your opinion on IVIG. I have been on doxycylin and IV Rocephan for 6 weeks, before that just doxycyclin Jan-Mar. My bloodwork has come back with the immune levels are low and I am waiting for the insurance group to approve IVIG. I am new at this....I have been a member for a few months...I am finally asking more questions! Thanks for being here.

Hi and Welcome! We're glad you're here.

I'm sorry, but

I don't have a clue what IVIG is. I took the natural, alternative route of antibiotics. I'm not up to speed on the conventionals.

Hang in there, someone will be along to help you out.

Connie

Please do not take anything I say as medical advice. I am not a doctor

My son (18) has low IGG and IGA but its extremely hard to get iVIG unless peripheral neuropathy or other accepted reason--for low IGG it has to be VERY low and that drops all the time so insurance not have to pay for the expensive stuff

Evan's 6 months of it ( given as a trial and before they dropped the "normals") made his sx imporve and he started to get better ( he was on abx as well) then about a month after it, he started to tank and the sx worsened without it

since then we are told he isnt "low enough"--so he is ill but not enough

IF you can get approved try it--it may help

IVIG is the IV admin of immunoglobulins, often Gammaglobulin or IGG

its unusual to have a general IG ( immunoglobulin) infusion in the U.S. and so more often its just IGG which wont help if youre low on the others

immunoglobulins are proteins of the immune system

it may be that your levels are depressed due to the meds or infection--hard to say--if youve never had tests before---whether you havean inherent/inborn deficiency--we guess thats Evan problem but we cant prove it and so we battle the insuirance all the time

lately we cabnt even find a Dr who will rx it due to the fights--we have been to several top immuno's and neuro's etc--all say they wont bother fighting

good luck

Finette
