Mamma

ask before you stick the kid again about the CD57

many find it to be unhelpful--only a few have had those levels parallel their recovery or failures

Many more of us simply get varying levels that dont mean anything that we or the Drs can interpret as they dont make sense--increases or decreases with sx resolution and the same with sx worsening--no patterns

IF your Dr knows enough about CD57 and you wish to have a number and then in a month to 6 weeks draw more blood ( and repeat a few more times) to see if he is among the minority this can work as a monitor of his progress--then ok--but realize that it may not work out after all those sticks!!

just thought Id warn ya

Finette,

Thanks for the information about the CD57 test. I'll ask my doctor about this at our next appointment.

Hi tina.r,

I'm so glad to hear of a success story with your son. You said he was treated for Lyme with amoxicilin at a year and a half and you believe he is fully recovered? This is music to my ears. Please elaborate. Did he have gestational Lyme from pregnancy or breastfeeding or did he have a tick bite at some point? Was he showing symptoms of Lyme before he was treated? How did you know? How long was he treated for? How did you and the doctor know when to stop treatment? Did he ever have any relapses? How long has he been symptom-free while off antibiotics? I would love to hear the full story of your son's recovery. At this point, any and all success stories are very needed for my piece of mind.

Thank you,

Mammabear

I am not really sure how he got sick, could have been a tick but it could also be through breastfeeding. We spent the summer in Sweden and were co sleeping a lot and in the late summer I noticed a mark on his chin that looked like a mosquito bite that never healed. It went on for I would say at least two months and one day it had developed to a textbook bulls eye mark. There were no other symptoms involved. I took him to our pediatrician and he was put on antibiotics for two weeks. The dr. and I did not know much about Lyme at this point and we were only following the textbook regarding the length of the treatment. The mark on his chin started to disappear just a few days after we started doxy.Just a few days after he was diagnosed I developed an enourmous bulls eye mark on the back of my leg (I remember I removed a tick at this place) and I was put on a two week doxy. It was so obvious this time so we did not run any labs. I was on doxy for ten days, did not take the full 2 weeks since in Sweden they only treat for ten days in early Lyme. I cut it short because I was just about to try get pregnant again and did not want to miss any occasions. I think I got pregnant two-days after finishing doxy. As far as I know my second son is fine. I am so lucky they are okay. He is now 5 years old and have not had any relapses. This happened 3 and a half year ago. The one that has been suffering this time is me but I rather much more see myself in this situation than my kids.

I wish you all good luck and hope your child will be okay.

Ps. Forgot to mention that the mark on his chin showed up some time after I removed the tick on my self so who knows, the same tick could have been on both of us but it could probably also been through nursing
