Clayton: How did you know you had Bart?? When they tested me they said I had a past exposer, but nothing present..I guess that was a good thing. I had cats and dogs all my life so It would not suprise me whatsoever.

I had bartonella, too. My lab work was done by immunosicences lab in California. I chose alternative medicine because conventional medicine failed me for many years. They couldn't even diagnose me correctly around here (in Tennessee). If you want more specifics on the alternative treatment for bartonella , just pm me. I don't know how it's treated conventionally. Or, I'd be happy to post on this site if you wish.

I'm so sorry your daughter is sick. You can beat this. I have and Clayton is in the process. I'm sure there are others, too.

I believe that the "conventional" method of treatment is the more common abx such as doxycycline, and amoxicillin but they also use some antivirals like plaquinil and I was even on an anti-aids drug called Mepron, which was really horrible.

Bart can be dx by the streaks ( purplish and like stretch marks) or sx as well as dx tests.

commonly the meds are Levoquin ( especially for BLO-bart like organisms), and/or Rofampin--others are NOT as effective

alternative meds include herbals like Polygonum ( Resveratrol) Boneset and Red Root Tincture...treatment is 1-3 months sometimes having to reapeat a few cycles if the infection was long term and/or you may need to hit the Lyme or other co's back and forth a bit.

Mepron and Plaq are for BABESIA often confused with Bart, but as those are anit-protozoals they wont work with Bart

doxy and amoxil wont work at all for nearly everyone but since most with Bart have assumable Lyme too theyre given with the Bart tx

Levopquin often used with doxy or mino ( + other tetracyclines)but NOT usually with other meds...so be careful when doing combo's

the Rifampin and Levo both have impressive side effects to watch for--look them up at rx.com or druglist.com BUT theyre worth it even if you have to start with smaller doses and work up. Same goes for herbs--starting slow.

some of the other alternatives have mixed results due to the nature of the organism--its often harder than Lyme to get rid of!!

good luck and learn about the organisms and the various treatments to be in formed about choices

good luck

Finette

( sorry I haven been around Im in my OWN Bart relapse--so I know what Im talking about after 18 plus yrs with Lyme and company AND Ive also been trying to save lives from those insisting on POISONING themselves with MMS)

Fin thanks for clearing the Mepron thing up...that was my first thought. ... bart is easier to treat I believe, I think they say babs is usually what keeps people from getting well, undertreated, I dn't know.

as far as bart treatment, many choices for that in either direction you go, looks like you have gotten some good answers here...only thing I need to add is build up the immune system. good vitamin, good C, and B complex, garlic (good garlic) supp, is amazing, cats claw, etc,

Hi Jaime

seems as if NONE of them are "easy" to treat--and so hard with overlapping sx to tell whats doing what sx anyway!! at least with Babs, they can be somewhat easily seen in blood smears--arent as hidden as BLO's--and so tx can be a little better monitored.

as for B complex there is a sublingual liquid we are trying for Evan ( he has reached overload with pills) --"sublingual B-Total" --this month on sale in health stores as a 2 for one ( each bottle has about 30 doses so for 8.99 you get 2 months--a good deal)--you take 1 ml ( dropperful) every day under tongue then swallow--it has niacin so may cause skin flush in some sensitive persons--other than that--looks good

for garlic--many use deodorized or aged like Kyolic--there are mixed opinions--Dr Zhang feels that the sulfurous/odorous ingred. are the ACTIVE parts and so he dislikes odor free brands

and a few are "allergic" or cant handle garlic/allicin family--I found out hard way that onions, garlic and leeks cause me a lot of problems!!

as always eliminate and add back anything that may be giving you sx to see the culprit.

Cats claw and Polygonum ( Jap. Knotweed) are also antibiotic as well as immune modulators so be aware it may increase Herx or other effects.and so you dont overload on "killers" accidentally.

moderate amounts of purified water ( not necessarily the magic 8 cups), and exercise--even if you can only walk to/from the bathroom every hour--slowly building up. And if youre pretty inactive, make sure you roll ankles and "pump" feet and legs for 3-5 min every 30-60 minutes to avoid clots!!!

be well

Finette

oops my Bart brain forgot about the Herx question

well in the strictest sense Bart hasnt been shown to have endotoxins like spirochetes and so there SHOULD be a slow resolution (improvement) of sx and NO Herx--BUT having said that you never know if the spiro's are also dying during tx and then youll have herx--in a perfect world with Bart alone, the chances of a real Herx are very rare
