I was diagnosed with Lyme disease earlier this week and am 11 weeks pregnant. My doctor started me on antibiotics 3x a day. Just wanted to hear from others in the same situation.. any advice, information to share? Thanks very much!

OK - this can be a tough one...

First - do you have any idea for about how long you may have had Lyme?

If you suspect that you have recently been infected, it is Vital that you get with an LLMD - because you will need to remain on abx for the duration of the pregnancy.

Lyme LOVES tissue - and a fetus is about the best it can get...I AM NOT TRYING TO SCARE YOU - but help you understand how serious this can become...

If you treat while pregnant, you are giving the bacteria something else to deal with, and are protecting the baby.

You need to also make sure that your diet is not feeding the disease - basically, you want to make your body inhospitable for the disease...

No refined sugars, no processed foods, and go gluten free - no wheat products...there are plenty of healthy alternatives available - if you need help finding some, let me know...

Lots of fresh veggies - as diverse as possible - and if you must cook them - lightly steamed so as to retain as much of the nutrients as possible. Eat fruit in moderation, mostly for energy, sweets cravings and fiber...

The healthier your diet, the stronger your immune system. The stronger your immune system, the better your body can fight the disease and protect the baby.

Lots of water for detox - half your weight in ounces daily of plain or quality mineral water. You also want to create a more alkaline environment - so adding some lemon or lime juice to your water will help with that...plus eating more alkaline helps too...

If you are not seeing an LLMD you really should - and depending on where you live, I may even have a Lyme Literate OBGYN on my list - again depending on where you live.

Please PM me if you need help with anything...I have 4 daughters, my first had her placenta tested and it was clear - but now I suspect that I either passed one of my co-infections in utero or I may have passed Lyme itself via breast milk.

I suspect that I passed it to my twins via breast milk - as I was not on abx for the duration of my breastfeeding them...and my youngest - my pregnancy kicked the Lyme into High gear and I was not on abx for the entire time I was pregnant either...

But in general - they are very healthy kids...they just have a few issues here and there...

This is definitly something that you can manage and have a healthy pregnancy...you just need to take charge and be in control. Let your doc know that you are not willing to take chances...

When I was preggo with my twins, I ended up seeing a specialist - and he explained that the real worry was going to be that they would need stronger doses of abx then babies/kids their age/size when they got sick...and yes, they all have required higher doses...but they also get better quicker too...(side note - I typically do not immunize them unless I deem it necessary and they do have strong immune systems)

You will be fine - just care for yourself in the best way possible...dont stress yourself out with worry - just be proactive and take charge...

Feel free to pm me for anything at all!

Christine
