MDJunction to me

"When I first came to MDJ, I was in a very dark place, and feeling quite alone, I don't know how I found this site, but I have been very grateful ever since, all of you have offered insight to the illness of Bipolar and the other things going on with me, being here has allowed me to find friends, and to feel safe in discussing things that I would never have shared before.

I believe it has also offered me the chance to reach out and help others. A simple Thank you, is all that I have to offer, to this site and to the wonderful people here.

I called to see what was wrong, and in a nutshell he called me a drug addict!!!I have been getting the same meds for years.he also called my dr. and threated him. I was a lunatic.Thesupervisor of this idiot apologized profuslyBut Iam outraged!Has anyone else everhad this experience?]

Hi:

Well I can see them asking as so many doctors give pain meds away like "Candy"...But if you have been going to the same place for years, that I would have a problem with.

I would call the corporate office and tell them what happend. Also I would call your doctor back and ask him what happend and have the doctor call the corporate office. I had to do that with Walgreens once.

Lyme will not win, we will and we WILL…

huh, I had the same problem at walgreens myself. My doctors office laughed, they said they get that from them ALL the time, they think they are the policemen of the drug world. This was my situation, I had an automatic refil on ultracet (hardly even a decent drug as anyone with real pain knows), this script was not from my regular doc, as I couldn't get in to see him. So when I was able to get into him, he wanted me to take ultram (ultracet is a lower milligram with tylenol in it), so I dropped off the new written script to walgreens, and told them, "please cancel the automatic refil on the ultracet, and just fill this one" I go back to pick it up and they said I have to call my doctor. I went off on them, first of all, if I was drug seeking, you think I would have kept the original auto refil, and took the new written one to a different pharmacy and filled it without insurance, it's a cheap drug. What morons! I think it's ridiculous that we have to justify what medications we take, and they try to make us feel like a drug addict in the process. I always use the same pharmacy so as to avoid any red flags because I do take many different medications, and this way it's all on one computer system and the interactions are there, etc. I'm sorry you had this experience as well. It's very upsetting.

My small town pharmacy just closed, and joined with rite aid, which I refuse to go there, they are so busy that they look at you like "great, now I have to stop what I'm doing to help you" With the money I spend on my meds and supplements, I want decent service. They just built a new Target here, and so I transferred everything to them, and they have been fantastic! I've even taken the opportunity to educate them about lyme disease, they were curious about some of the meds I was on, so I was telling them about it. I would report it to the corperate office, let them know how disapoited you are, that you have been loyal to them, and you will be finding a new place to fill your meds, and seeing as that you are sick, that's a lot of money to take elsewhere.

Yes, some doctors are quick to write pain scripts, although I have yet to come across it I have heard stories. When I frist got put on some of the meds I take I was a nervous wreck, I used to be miss all natural, and to have to take medications every day of my life just created turmoil in me. I researched the heck out of it, and have learned that if you are truely in pain, your body can NOT heal, and that if you are truely in need of these medications, be it pain, or anxiety or whatevery, the likely hood of addiction is really low when taken properly.

Please do not take anything I say as medical advice. I am not a doctor.

I used to be a pharm tech and we rarely ever questioned any prescriptions. Pharmacists do have the right to refuse to fill a prescription, but they should take the responsibility to explain to you why they are not filling the script. If I were you I would simply explain to the pharmacist that he does not have your full medical backround he merely sees a glimpse of it when you bring in that little piece of paper. Ask him to call and speak to your physician and then make it clear to him that once he has spoken to the doctor he is not a doctor and you hope you will have his full cooperation. Also I would speak to the chain and make a formal complaint. I always expect the pharmacists to say something to me because I look so normal and I am only 25 coming in to get a months worth of methadone. But I guess they just know me well enough. Also you might try to explain your situaition to the pharmacist and let him in on your health condition so he doesn't think you are just a drug seeker.

accalea....yeah, that's what I kinda did with my small town pharmacy, they've known me my whole life really, but at walgreens and rite aid, they don't give a hoot. Now Target has been wonderful. I just transferred over to them, and somehow it came up in conversation about lyme disease, and I started educating the pharmacist about it a bit, she was very interested, and wants more info...i love that. I think some of these pharmacists take it too far. Especially if you're filling thru insurance...most ins. companies won't let the same drug go thru more than a day or two early anyhow, it's one thing if you're showing up with several narcotic scripts from several docs and not using insurance to pay for them , then it's a red flag, , but in most of our casees it's BS. I invite them to step into my shoes for one full day, and tell me how good it feels to be me, even on my meds, my pain levels on a "good" day hover at a 6 ON MEDICATION.... that's not the best quality of life. and that's just the pain part of it... lets not even go thru the other 60 symptoms!
Please do not take anything I say as medical advice. I am not a doctor.

I agree with myself..LOL. In everyones case, ignorance is bliss. So instead of getting upset about how naive they are or how they are treating me without knowing what is going on with; I simply tell them how it feels to be me. I try to educate people as much as I can and hope that the next person they come acrossed that is has lyme disease, they may be more sympathetic and understanding. Just a thought.

Oh , I hate that feeling of being accused of abusing pain pills. I only took two lorset plus per day (in combination with Ultram) but I was treated as if I were a druggie sometimes (not by the pharmacist, but by my ex-internist). This from a doc who wrote me for 100 lorset plus on my first visit! I'm sure a lot of people would like his phone number..ha. Anyway, I'm sorry you had to go through that. That really stinks. If they could walk in our shoes for just a day.

Bottom line: people that don't have Lyme are CLUELESS about the pain. I agree with the others that it is an opportunity to educate.

Please do not take anything I say as medical advice. I am not a doctor.

Open your mind to the possibilities available to you.

An attitude of gratitude is good 'medicine,' too.
