Allow me to brag and share my daughter Samantha was just awarded one of the relatively few this year fellowships from the NSF-National Science Foundation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!( good old Pres Bush had again cut funding for the sciences, leaving many young scientists withoput funding) Very prestigious and this will now financially support her PhD work in Anthro/primatology. I am SOOOO proud of her!!! she works hard and is brilliant ( if I do say so myself) and she has been awarded in the past with university scholarships and private grants but this award carries the prestige and support she so well earned and deserves!!! Unfortunately ( for me the Jewish Mom who worries) this means even more trips to/from Africa for her data collection as now she will have the funds!! She has been finishing the MS portion of her studies at ASU/IHO ( Institute Human Origins), under Dr Kaye Reed; and her office is a few steps from Dr Donald Johanson ( Lucy fame) and so she is in good company. We were a bit dismayed when she turned down an admittance to Cambridge (England) to go to ASU but she didnt want to be that far from family given my and Evan's illness--guess she chose well after all!! anyway have to make like a dozen phone calls to share this wonderful news ( side note--Ive been lying low due to awful vertigo, dysautonomia and silly me on Sunday spent all day alongside a dear friend who drove 2 hrs to waken my garden for spring and forgot Im on Mino--ended up with severe sunpoisoning and overdoing it have me flattened--and add to it this good news and my heart rate is thru the roof!!!!)
