MDJunction to me

jenniferdiva"MDJunction has been just an amazing support for me. The people who are on mdj are so nice! Unlike the many other support sites that I have been on. I have made several friends on mdj who are so supportive and so educated about mental illness. Of course non of us are doctors, but we certainly offer each other hugs, opinions, and advice. I have learned a great deal from my friends on mdjunction. I am also encouraging other people who suffer from mental illness to come on to MDJ. It can be a life line." (jenniferdiva)

My doc just prescribed Biaxin, Plaquenil and Amoxycillin (oral). I've heard that there can be eye issues with Plaquenil? Can anyone shed some light on this?

Thanks!

Linda

I was on plaquenil (hydroxychloroquine) for a year and a half. Originally for lupus then same as you for lyme. Rhuematologist told me after I read about it and called the doc "oh yeah make sure and have an eye exam every six months". Stopped taking it 3 weeks ago had an eye exam 2 weeks ago. I am 42 and one of the lucky ones that did have irreversible damage in the form of decreased peripheral vision. Eye doc would have taken me off it if not already stopped. Make sure if you take it and can tolerate it you get those eye exams to watch for problems and good luck. Nat

I was also put on it for misdiagnosed lupus and am now being prescribed it again with doxy, zith, and mepron. My doc will not call in the script until I have an eye exam and then I have to go regularly beyond that. The rheum. that originally put me on it never said a thing. Scary.

Hello,

I have been on plaquenil for some time now. I get a special eye exam called the red test every 6 months to make sure the med is not affecting my eyes. Your eye doctor should be familiar with plaquenil and the test required.
