Lyme Disease ForumsGeneral & SupportWhy didn't Bio-Allergenix testing work for me?

I finally tried Bio-Allergenix, which some people on this forum have recommended.

It was exciting to be tested for sensitivity to so many different compounds.

However, I turned up positive for reactions to only about 3, and they were random things that I don't think I am sensitive to, like watermelon and vanilla. And I didn't come up positive for things that I know myself to be sensitive to (like gluten).

I'm wondering -

a) Do most people come up as sensitive to more things than 3?

b) Do you think I wasn't hydrated enough? I did pass the hydration test, but just barely.

c) Any other ideas as to why I wouldn't have turned up positive? Maybe my body is worn down by Lyme and isn't reacting to things in general?

Also wanted to ask about your experiences with Bio-Allergenix.

Well that's one I haven't heard of, too stuck in the inbox I guess must have missed it. Glad to see you Rain. If you don't want to waste time telling me how you did this that's fine, I can look it up, I clearly know no one who has done this, or do and don't know it..Will see what I can find out.

Hi Rain,

I had the testing done also, but I turned up non-reactive to almost everything. I had a very slight reaction to peanuts, but I've never noticed anything when I eat them. Other than that, it was perfectly clear. I was relieved, though - I didn't want to stop eating anything. Smile

So, no it's not weird to turn up allergic to only a few things. As to why gluten didn't show up and you know you're sensitive to it, not sure what to say! Ask your doctor about that...I think there might be more reasons people have trouble with gluten than just a simple allergy.

Be grateful for your results!! Smile

Ok - you have to remember there are differences in intolerant, allergy, and having sensitivities...

With regard to gluten, my initial showing was that I was intolerant of every single grain on earth. And I had peyers patches which were a signal for celiac disease. Now celiac is a disease that is genetic and once trigger on - it doesnt go away...yet NOW i can tolerate gluten...its when the lyme in my guts and/or a specific nerve in my spine become aggitated that I cant tolerate even the slightest bit of it.

allergies, intolerances and sensitivities also change periodically. for a while my brother was intolerant of rice and corn, 6 months later no reaction at all....

Think about what is happening in your body. if you are not balanced and not absorbing things correctly, you may have certain reactions...then you balance out, and no more reactions.

I would say your gluten sensitivity has to do with the overall issues that the lyme is causing. it took me 2 yrs of being gluten free before i could eat it again...however - my guts may be able to tolerate it - my aches an pains increase...if i stay clear of it for a few days, i feel less pains...

hydration is also important - did you take any of your meds that day - i was told to take none at all as it could interfere with my results - that was awful cuz at the time I was on morphine the pain was so bad and i had to drive myself...

did the tech have any explanations for you? the woman who did mine was an rn and nutritionist and something else i forget what...but related in there some how...

was this a test that strictly looked for allergies and such - or was it more comprehensive looking for what other things could have been causing your problems?

Christine

Thanks for the info.

I took my Armour thyroid that morning. I did take my antibiotics that day, but I think I took them after I did the testing.

It was just the regular Bio-Allergenix machine.

The doc said something as I was leaving about how maybe they could adjust the sensitivity and try me again - maybe I would show up if they lowered the threshold for what the machine considers to be a response.

I tend to have very cold hands and feet without much blood flow to my extremities, in case that matters.
