Does anyone out there have a port? I am looking into my options because my PICC failed, and I can't get another. I am trying to weigh out what is more cost effective.

I have a port, get a port! I have a thread on it and even a picture.. Cost effective- you get an infected Picc- you buy another, WAY less chances of that happening with a port and you can be much more FREE with it... I wouldn't settle for anything less. I say the cost is around $1000, my ins covered mine, will find the thread, it's under 'port, picc, groshong' , not many answered but now it's coming up alot

I can tell you- the cost of two PICCs may buy you a port, depending on what you're doing , if you have kids, well you know my opinion on it. Won't be bossy..This is my port, just walked in the door out of surgery and took a pic, now it's barely visible. They are all central venous caths, go to the subclavian vein, same place. If you do get a port, I suggest NO POWER PORT.... Get the tiniest one, and a Bard.. I have lots of advice on med devices but won't bore you with it. Just know that a power port is huge, bulky, hurts, and can cause more issues. The top stictch is where they secure it, the lower suture line is where they place it. Unfortunately , a port is placed by a surgeron in an OR, can now be done under versed/ so you are not completely sedated and you don't have to pay for an extra doc-the aneasthesiologist.. An RN can do the PICC as you know, in a room setting, but you have been there, done that..
