Being in the military for over 20 years and working as a Combat Field Medic and then as a Navy Hospital Corpsman, I had on many occasions had to remove ticks from members of the U.S. Military. To which covers the Kansas Army National Guard from 1979-1987. And 2nd Marine 8th Division from 1995-1997 and then 2nd Marine Amphibious Assult (AAV) until I retired from the Navy.

At no time during the tick removal were we privied to any information about the disease. True Lymes was a known factor to tick bites, but we were led to believe we weren't in areas of infection.

In my time and over the years since the mass spread of this disease I've learn other wise.

How many of our Veterans are carriers of this disease?

How many of our Veterans don't know they've got this disease?

And what is the VA/Government going to do, about this being covered up this many years.

I feel bad, being in the medical field for this long and not having all the fact to pass on to my Marines and to other military personnel in areas that are in fact Tick infested and spreaders. And this discussion should also include military memebers families.Angry

Tim.. First I have to express my gratitude for your service. Thank you! My brother is currently in Fort Knox for his AIT.

Now don't feel bad about not being able to convey to your marines the potential danger they were possibly exposed to.

You could only perform with the knowledge you had at the time.

It is a shame the truth of this matter is concealed from people of all walks of life.

I to, was a hospital corpsman. Two yrs in Grotton, CT, then 2 with the 10th Marines, 2nd Mar Div. Was symptomatic since about 73 and it has gotten progressively worse. I went outside the VA for DX, testing (positive) and treatment.

They say you can only make a person believe what they want to believe. My VA doc is pissed that I went off my statins (117ldl)and doesn't see any evidence of a lyme infection or any need for all my meds.

I hope she's the exception. All the facts are there, and I only shared them so maybe they would wake up a little and help someone else. I told one DR that it wasn't right that I had to figgure it out myself and asked him about all the people who are unable to connect the dots themselves. He was listening.

My wife, also a vet, isn't saying a word to them about hers and didn't think it wise for me to bring it to their attention, but I feel someone has to.

Dave

tscaf - I am also a Vet. I was in the Army, 187th. Medical Battalion at Ft. Sam Houston. I trained as a Combat/Flight for Life Medic & also worked in Psych while serving. I developed Heavy metal Toxicity from all the vaccines I received. I also have never been able to receive/view a complete list of vaccines to this date & it has been almost 25yrs. God only knows what the military has injected us with.

I agree, having worked in the medical field for the Military, sever neglect goes on but what most civillains don't know is that when we are serving, we are military property & we are not allowed to sue Military Drs. for any neglect.

I'm an Advocate

tim, dave, dave's wife, and dina,

thank you ALL for your sacrifices in serving and going to war over the years. your famililies are included in my deepest gratitude.

i've worked with many military folks while on/off duty.

i've complained to congress too that our aired forces should have the BEST DRS. AVAILABLE when they are bitten by ticks/vector-borne carriers, and then receive UNSATISFACTORY IDSA, INFECTIOUS DISEASE DRS, less than 1 month of treatment, and become CHRONIC LYME-CO-INFECTIONS.

many have shared many war stories of going on their own. 1 female was found out and REFUSED to let her go to our llmds even though she was PAYING OUT OF POCKET FOR ALL EXPENSES vs. military who should have been paying expenses!

also blood supply in service!

american red cross has stated they follow DOD, DEPT. OF DEFENSE, RULES:

as long as they have been CURED WITH NO SYMPTOMS within a given amount of time, THEY CAN DONATE AGAIN! again; give me a break will you?Devil Angry Sad

all 3 of you never tol the seriousness and how to treat folks bitten; shame on our us govt defense dept!

Weasy: Tell your brother to keep a good eye open for these little blood suckers. And to report a tick bite as soon as its spotted. At least there will be some documentation for later dates and as soon as he can, he needs to start copying his medical records. Personnel copies work wonders when the VA tells you they can't find your military record. And thank him for his service.

And yes I do still wonder about the Marines I treated. Myself I've been bitten an never exposed. Thank you God. Just watching my wife is enough for me.

And about knowledge. The military still operates in a shroud of darkness when it comes to this disease. All branches from what I heard. This is a very bad deal for our men and women in uniform.

Thanx

True we can't sue the military. But we can sure stir the pot out here for the ones that are serving. There has to be ways to get this information out to the public and to the ones that are defending out country.

Spent some time at Fort Sam. "Goat Lab" Felt odd being the only sailor on an Army Base. But I dropped with the best of them.

I started copying my medical record after my second enlistment. Actually it was at the advice of my Commanding Officer, that I worked for. I was the CO's driver at the Naval Hospital I was assigned too. If I can offer any advice to a military member. Copy your Medical / Personnel Records yearly. What information gets taken out when you End you Obligated Service is mind boggeling. Yet your complete record goes to an archive to be lost forever.

And yes we were all crash test dummies for the military. God only knows the junk I have floating in my body.

Thanks for your relpy

Are you all aware that the military has Lyme listed as a Bio warware?

The military is very aware of Lyme and what it can do but like other things they dont want us to know they have (I believe) been part of the coverup for this disease

Thanks for the service . I have a cousin in the Navy and a nephew in the Air Force. My husband is a VN Vet and they are still denying exposure to agent orange for those stationed in Thailand. He worked on the planes that delivered the agent.

Very frustrating when dealing with the government Again thanks for your service

Carol

I am NOT a doctor, anything I share is based on my experience & research. I encourage you to discuss any and all information that I share with a health care provider.
