Just saw a feature on Fox News about the connection between Lone Star Tick bites and meat allergies.

I had seen an article a few days ago about this, as the subject was trending on Yahoo.

This morning, I'm putting two and two together and just wondering if this could be what I experienced a few days ago.

I have been having anxiety, tightness of the throat, tingling around my mouth/lips and slight breathing difficulties. I have been attributing it to neurotoxins.

I very rarely eat beef, but sometimes have a little.

Earlier this week my husband and I took a little three day trip to East Texas.

We ate at a buffet, and I had a little roast. After leaving the restaurant, we were traveling for a couple of hours to the next town.

About twenty minutes into the trip, I developed tightness of the throat, tingling around my mouth and lips and some difficutly breathing. I positioned the air conditioner vents toward me for more air.

I remember asking my husband if we were gaining in altitude, which neither of us could answer. After returning home, I checked the altitude and found that we were no more above sea level than we had been.

I have gotten anxiety from traveling as a passenger - especially when my husband drives, however, we weren't in a heavy traffic situation at the time.

Could be an allergy or anxiety I guess.

But the articles about that meat allergy from the lone star tick bites indicated people experience delayed anaphlaxis.

You ever been tested for allergies?

I am not in the medical field and anything I say is simply my opinion and should not replace the advice of your doctor.

What is strange is that I've had this reaction from time to time and was attributing it to Lyme anxiety.

I had the same thing happen last night after eating a little pizza - veggies, pork and beef.

I rarely eat anything other than fish, chicken or turkey. Occasionally, I'll have a little pork or beef - very rarely, though.

I'm just going to abstain from the pork and beef all together - which I had done for years anyway.

Also, not sure if I was bitten by a Lone Star tick. It was a tiny nymph and was black.

Don't have insurance and allergy tests are very expensive!

Nank- Thank you for posting this. I have a neighbor down here in Austin, that suddenly has developed allergic reactions to meat. Not one Dr. could explain way to her. Maybe this will give her the info she needs to start taking her health a little more serious.

A friend of mine in Oklahoma got bit by many ticks growing up on his ranch. He hasn't developed any of the usual symptoms yet but he did discover one day after eating meat he almost died. The doctors tested him and told him he's allergic to meat. He's been a hunter and meat eater all his life.

He won't admit he might have Lyme disease and won't get tested for it, but he's deathly allergic to meat and has to carry an Epi Pen with him at all times. I have no doubt in my mind it's related to tick bites.
