First of all...didn't intend to type 'one' ... it is supposed to be 'on'!!!

Not only has Lyme & Co caused sound sensitivity, but it causes my nerves to be on end when another constantly wants the TV to be on!

Even when I try to go to another room, I can still hear it! What is wrong with silence from time to time!?!

I just can't separate my thoughts and concentrate anymore with the constant dialogue. If I'm trying to assemble thoughts for a composition, it's just impossible with the constant chatter in the background.

Sometimes, I just have to go out on the porch, or seek another outside area where it's quiet.

I'm starving for peace and tranquility!!!

Hi Nan,

I like peace and quiet too, and I finally got my hubby to not turn the TV on when we're reading. I can't stand concentrate on reading when the TV is on, unless it is very, very low.

You might try a white noise device. My has several types of natural noises: rainfall, waves breaking, birds singing, crickets chirping, and the sound of a creek flowing.

Other then that, you might use the soft ear plugs that Betty suggested.

Same here, I am having a hard enough time concentrating, trying to read or whatever, when the TV is on constantly I get super irritated.

But at night, I do need a little sound to help drown out my own busy mind!!

My husband just like it on during all waking hours - he even works better with background noise. He can keep up with ball scores on the computer or be reading - and still be able to keep up with the story line on TV.

I've always like studying or reading in the quiet. With tinnitus, it gets a little irritating, but, it's not as distracting as dialogue.

At night, we have a monitoring system in our bedroom which monitors noises in our church next door - so, it provides white noise while we're sleeping.

I guess I'll need to get some ear plugs. I wish not to remove myself from the room - want to be with my husband.

I'm on the other side. I'm ADHD, figured out it's most likely due to Lyme, and have constant ringing in my ears.

With the tv on, which it is 24 hrs a day, my mind doesn' wander as much and it helps drowns out the ringing.

for me trying to sleep in silence is horrible. my mind goes on continually reliving the day or things that happened years ago. If that's not bad enough, the ringing wants me to put an ice pick thru my ears.

Just another side.....

This is where I am right now, TV is on, air conditioner is on, ceiling fan is on, husband is walking through the house, drier is tumbling, cars going by on the street, wind chimes chiming...and the ears are ringing above all those sounds.

I think that I'm just so used to the horrible ringing that it is just second nature. It's annoying, but a different annoying.

There is just something about the TV that is irritating. It's loud and it's as if someone is always talking. Talking, talking, talking. I think that what makes me crazy. Constant loud talking!!

I use headphones, my son plays the drums. I need the TV noise most of the time, but when I get sound sensitive and need to make the noise stop jangling me I put on something soothing, Carlos Nakai or new age music, or nature sounds. You might also get some wireless headphones for him so he can have the noise and you the quiet.

peace

I have the same TV issue. I can watch TV in small doses but if I get a text, I have to pause the TV or I can't read the text.

If the TV is on, I have to be focusing on it 100%, otherwise I can't do anything else.

I'm lucky enough to have a house where I can go upstairs if people downstairs are watching tv and I won't hear it.

I have the same issue with music. I can't listen to music in the car and I can't be around music at all because it gives me a headache.

I just had a brain MRI yesterday and took earplugs and wore the headphones to try and muffle the banging but opted out of the radio music they offer.

It was still miserable with all that noise though! Why can't they make a silent MRI?
