My doctor agreed to treat for Lyme disease with doxycycline even though my test was not a complete positive. My question is this. On day 3 after starting the antibiotics I felt absolutely horrible. Very bad headache that would not go away and nausea that was horrible. I know Doxy can cause some nausea but that was the only day it was that bad. Could that be the bacteria of the Lyme disease dying in my system?

Hey Denmark

It's true that doxy is known for causing nausea but based off the prominence of your description, it sounds like you had a herx.

I've taken doxy and had nausea from it but it was never really anything I gave a second though about. Was never truly a bother.

Once I started herxing though, oh yeah, I was stopped in my tracks and had to question what just happened!

Sounds like a Herx reaction.

Doxi makes me very nauseous....but that sounds like more of a Herx than a side effect

My Doxy herx began on about the third day.

It was a very miserable experience. My fatigue was atrocious, my body ached EVERYWHERE, my headache was brutal.

My herx reactions have all been a little different and the durations of each herx has varied.

Take care...and remember to detox!

What is a herx? Sorry I have no idae. I feel so stupid! I am a vet tech and so very familiar with dog stuff, but not with people stuff!! VBG I have never heard of a herx reaction. So are you meaning this is going to happen again? OMG!!I sure hope not and if I had know that would happen I would not have done it so that it fell on a surgery day!

It refers to the die off of bacteria as a result of treatment - antibiotics, natural methods, etc.

The official name is Jarisch-Herxheimer reaction. It is named after an Austrian dermatologist by the name of Adolf Jarisch and a German dermatologist by the name of Karl Herxheimer. They discovered the reaction.

Detox is very important during her in order to cleanse your body of the toxins.

Other than the day 2-4 or so during the hearx reaction the doxycycline has not made me nauseated! Thank goodness! Since I will be on it for a while now!
