MDJunction to me

grandmasylvia"MDJ has been "a soft place to fall" for me as Dr Phil says. I have this very painful rare disease Dercum's Disease and take comfort in finding others here who share their knowledge and compassion. Many
members have helped me just by understanding my anguish and validating
my pain. We are working together to encourage research toward a cure.

Check out this post by BettyG It's helpful though I'm sure there's more info to be found elsewhere online:

Okay. Sounds as if the chances of it happening are slim.

My husband has been experiencing flu like symptoms off and on. He's having an occurrence of it at this time.

Outside of that, two Monday evenings in a row he suddenly became chilled and shaky all over.

Just considering and doing research. It just doesn't seem very likely, but this is a sneaky disease.

My husband got lyme from me. So yes I would say it's definitely true. It can be passed from one to another.

Previous discussions I participated in:

Another thing that we have to deal with. Yes, I often wonder the same thing, it's one of my greatest fears. Is my wife getting sick? Is it from me?

We would like to have children in a few years and my LLMD suggested that we test my wife prior to trying, just in case we have to run a course of abx.

So far, she seems to be ok - over 5 years and counting and I've had untreated lyme for a long time.

I'm an Advocate

on fallon's website, no date or copyright was shown; i copied the text above.

now at last year's annual ILADS aka chronic LLMDS conference in toronto, canada, kids no. 1 llmd, dr. charles ray jones, 82, stated there are DOCUMENTED cases and YES, IT CAN BE SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED.

he didn't go into alot since they were having techinical problems there for the LIVE WEBCAST we all were watching.

i've read many books, it was hinted at over and over but no one went out on a limb saying YES it is.

now our llmds have DOCUMENTED PROOF saying yes, it can be.

i've talked to many other couples and those living together where the spouse/SO was infected sexually.

it's the case of WHO DO YOU BELIEVE thing again? me, i'd take NO CHANCES. we know what each of us is/have gone thru; why give it to a loved one.

misery loves company, but that's where i draw the line myself.

LCHTom, it's even more NOT wise to understate the risk. You are grossly understating this by using one source.

There's much more newer information that's come out recently that not only says that LD is a sexually transmitted disease, but it also can be passed on orally as well because the spirochetes live in the mouth.

Why do you think so many married couples BOTH get this disease? Why do you think so many babies born from mothers with LD get this disease? YES, it is transmittable and it's quite common, unfortunately.

Betty is right, listen to the voice of wisdom.

It can even be passed on orally.

On a Lyme FB forum I'm on there are many mothers who admit that they passed down LD to their babies through breast milk or they got it in vitro. Many people on the forums said that their spouses didn't have LD until they had unprotected sex.

The evidence may not be as scientific as you'd like it to be, but common sense sometimes has to prevail before we get all the scientific proof we want before making any judgment on this. Common sense in the case is, don't have unprotected sex. And if you plan to have children, expect that you may pass this disease down to your child.

Since LD is a close "cousin" of syphilis, I think that is all we need to know about the possibilities of this disease being a STD. I have more files in my computer from well known LLMD's who come right out and say it absolutely can be sexually transmitted. I will try to find them and post it later.

Don't be alarmed—use common sense and practice safe sex.

Gary
