Over the last couple months, my shoulders have been absolutely KILLING me. It started right before starting on antibiotics/lyme treatment, and now is getting worse.

First noticed when trying to exercise, can barely do a single pull up. Not for lack of strength, but the pain... holy crap.

Then, yesterday, we got 6 inches of nice wet packing snow. Tried to throw snowballs with my daughter and again, OWA!!!! I used to be able to throw a football better than nearly anyone I know, now I can barely throw a snowball 30 feet.

But, I can still bowl with nearly no pain. Something about the over-head movement that is very painful.

Has anyone gone through this? Any hope for improvement during or after treatment? Do you think it would be better to lay off trying to exercise or would it make things better?

Cheers- Pete

I'm an Advocate

pete,

i have shoulder problems too; chiropractor works on this every week for me too.

i'd lay off exercises. it's just aggravating an existing injury.

yes, that wet snow was something, but we got 3" only with freezing rain right before it of course. i tried shoveling sidewalk today, but it's loaded with ice! so i shoveled and then put salt on it. tomorrow to be 45; good to melt.

best wishes; glad you made dad/daughter memories throwing snowballs though.

i'd NOT do any OVER THE HEAD things. do you have a GRABBER STICK? use that for things.

do you use heating pad or frozen ice packs to sooth the area? i do; helps plus some BIOTENE rollon.

best wishes to you dad Wink

I have the same issue too. Like Betty I've had to limit my activities. I do exercise though. I takes a day or so to recover if I dont injure myself.

Lyme infects the connective tissue and weakens it. It also causes it to swell making it real easy to injure. Such injures take weeks to heal. We all have to learn the hard way. To take it easy an know our new and restricted limits.

I have had joint pain, swelling and popping in almost every place BUT my shoulders and shoulder blades.

HOWEVER, I have been on a two week Herx and within the past two days have developed very annoying and painful shoulder and shoulder blade pain - which extends up to my neck and down my back.

Yesterday, it was the right side. Today, the left.

This almost feels muscular. I do have a lot of muscle pain, soreness and weakness.

I have been on an anti-inflammatory diet for about three weeks and hope that helps after time. The Herx could also be aggravating it.

I hear you on the popping- when I get up in the morning, I sound like a pack of firecrackers, between my ankles, knees, toes, etc! Haven't had any swelling, yet.

I guess the pain in a way is good, getting the nasties out... The variance of the pain too- from side to side, yup.

When the shoulder thing started, I thought I had broken my collarbone, that's how bad it hurt.

Guess I'll take it easy on it for a while.

Thanks for the replies--- Pete
