Praise God...I found a Lyme literate naturopath close to home!

Appointment is Monday.

Would very much appreciate any input and suggestions as to what I should expect as treatment, and what important points to make when I see with her.

I'm thinking it would be important to take a history from the very onset, as well as any test results.

Thanks so much for your time and suppport! I realize just how valuable your time and energy are.

Smile

Hi nank --

Disclosure - I'm basing this on past appointments with NDs, not on my Lyme treatment. My LLMD is in integrative medicine, though, so there are some similarities.

Yes, you are correct, a detailed history will be the first step. You can also expect to have a conversation about what you want to gain/accomplish through your treatment. Sounds funny, but it's an important conversation.

You will probably be asked about your prior experience and knowledge in alternative/holistic therapies. This will help gauge your comfort level, as well as how much your ND will need to explain.

As naturopaths generally look at the BIG picture regarding just about everything that goes on in your body, there will be a ton of questions. You can also most likely expect some form of muscle testing (applied kinesiology) or ART.

If you haven't had this before, it's a way for your doc to "listen" to your body and find out what is out of kilter, where there are deficiencies or too much of something, what systems are shut down or overactive, etc.

And especially since you are likely dealing with Lyme, you'll be checked for infections, parasite, fungi (including yeast), etc.

You can expect some dietary and lifestyle recommendations, as well as herbal and/or homepathic protocols, supplementation, and supportive care recommendations.

Also, there will likely be an emphasis on working with your body to help it overcome the infection.

Does that help? Anyone else have input?

Hey Nank!

That's really good news to hear that you've found a local ND that specializes in Lyme.

If there is one thing you should expect, it would be the feeling of hope. Naturopathic Doctors have a tendency to bestow hope and faith in their patients.

It's just a vibe one gets, unlike the terminal vibe you receive at the regular doctor's office.

Also they may posses a big fluffy couch for your comfort as well as a fish tank! Tongue

Wow, Weasy...that's very positive! Much appreciated!

Irenwill...A naturopath demonstrated applied kinesiology at a recent support group meeting. I had actually never seen or heard of it until then. It was quite impressive. Thanks again for your experienced input!

The visit went well. She took over an hour to visit with my husband and I.

Came out of the visit with a sack full of supplements,a diet plan and several good suggestions. Then, on to the lab.

Igenex test is on its way, plus a few other panels...couldn't afford to do them all at this time.

She is waiting on the results from the Western Blot, but did prescribe supplements which are beneficial to someone with Lyme.

I would be more specific and detailed, but I am really hurting and am totally worn out.

There is hope. Thanks to all and have a good night!

I'm glad it went well! When you get a chance, would you mind pm'ing me what kind of supplements you're taking? I can't find a naturopathic/LLND anywhere near me and have been trying to do my own research of what kind of supplements I should be taking.

Hey nank, that is awesome and good to hear! Glad that you got to see a demonstration of muscle testing before your appointment. I think that helps to be familiar with it prior to your time with the doctor.

Weasy is right about ND's - they work from the belief that the body has the power to "heal" itself by bringing itself back into balance, where allopathic physicians focus on pathology - what is wrong.

By definition, NDs focus on what is right with the body.

In the past I had limited success with them - probably because they weren't aware of the special challenges involved with Lyme, and neither did I. Now I like that my LLMD can integrate both worlds.
