The day I found out I had Lyme Disease was the day I found out I was pregnant with my now 9 month old daughter. I had full blown symptom - Bell's Palsy, all the flu like symptom, I had speech issues from Lyme Meningitis you name it. I was treated very aggressively with IV Antibiotics for a month and I have been symptom free since. The baby never had any issues in utero as far as heart problems, early labor or any fetal growth syndrome..all the things they looked for.

My question is that we haven't had her tested because I am nursing and my antibodies will go through the milk and show positive either way for her. But she has allot of problems with gas and belly pain has anyone experienced this or think it could be linked. Besides the belly pain she is the most happiest little bug under the sun.

Are the symptoms your daughter experiencing Lyme related? Possibly. I can't say for sure though because I am no doctor.

I understand your reason for not having her tested via the western blot but have if you're really considering having her tested, have you contemplated the Borrelia Culture test?

It doesn't use antibodies to test for lyme disease.

What have doctors said about your daughters stomach issues?

I don't have personal experience with this, but I have read posts here from women who treated throughout their pregnancies with low doses of Doxy to help prevent it passing to the baby.

I have read some whose babies did not test + until several months after their birth. And some of those children remain symptom free who test +.

It is such a complicated disease.

I will pray your baby remains happy, healthy and symptom free.

Good Luck!

Hi. Both my girls have congenital lyme and they both had tummy troubles and gas as babies.

That said, lots of kids have that trouble too so I don't know. Good to be on top of it and if you don't get her tested now, test as soon as you think there may be a problem. It took us 8 years to find out since I didn't know about my lyme either and none of our doctors ever thought it could be our trouble.

HUGS!

For some reason I never even thought that Lyme could be the reason for any of it, then it dawned on me that it could be a possibility. Our doctor thinks its acid reflux so she is currently on Zantac until this weeks doc appointment, but its not helping. She is so gassy at night, wakes up 7 to 10 times a night screaming in utter pain, once she "toots" she goes back to sleep but you have to hold her and rock her until she does which can take 15 to 20 minutes or more. I'm officially tired! Something is obviously wrong and i haven't' gotten the answers I need yet. I am waiting to her back from my lyme doctor to see what he says but I was hoping to go into this appointment with the pediatrician tomorrow with something to work off of.

lots of babies have tummy troubles (may be related to your diet since you are nursing) and it doesn't necessarily mean lyme. my 5 year old had belly issues as a baby but once i put him on a gluten free diet (around age 2), he has felt great and is RARELY sick. he has tons of energy and is far healthier than most other kids his age at school. with that said, i don't know for sure if he has lyme (only tested through quest so far and was neg). but i do know he outgrew his tummy troubles and my 2nd and 3rd children also have good immune systems and no digestive issues

bdoll,

I don't have kids, but before I had to stop working - my specialty was working with moms and their infants - many special needs or high needs.

It *could* be Lyme. And I'd say it's a good idea to track her symptoms for any future issues.

However, like benniferobin said - sometimes diet is a big help.

Since you are nursing - maybe try cutting out foods like dairy, soy, gluten, corn. Especially if she is gassy all the time.

Pay attention to which vegetables you are eating and if she is more gassy after feeds 1-2 hours after eating those. I know for my sister she has to stay away from asparagus, broccoli, and cabbage.

Any babyfood she eats should be free of dairy, soy, gluten, and corn as well.

Along with the diet changes, you could do some tummy massages. You can find instructions online that will be easier to follow than my trying to type them out here.

I find pediatricians label "reflux" much too often. Usually it is food sensitivities. Doesn't mean she won't be able to eat them ever, but right now her system is too immature to handle them.

Hope she feels better soon....

My son had horrible acid reflux when he was a baby. He was so sick he couldn't keep any food down and got scary skinny as a result. Zantac never worked for him, they ended up giving him stronger reflux medications, which sort of worked, but he still screamed all the time. That being said, he grew out of it by 1 year, and is a completely healthy two year old now. He doesn't have Lyme or food allergies.
